Factory Alarm or Dealer install?
Hey guys,
I just placed my order for 07 Space Grey 328xi. The dealer mentioned that the car doesn’t come with an Alarm. I found that to be very strange, being that all most all new cars come with some type of passive alarm at the very least. In order to get an alarm he wanted me to pay $700 for to be installed. I started to look at BMWUSA and notice that the Radio has an Anti-Theft AM/FM stereo CD/mp3…. Is this an alarm? If so will the red light under the rear view mirror flash when it’s armed? If it’s different, what will the $700 alarm do over the Stock alarm that comes with the car? I really don’t want to spend $700 for something that is already standard. Thanks Guys…. |

there is no stock alarm, but many ppl say its not needed anyway cuz u cant steal the car without the fob...however, i live in NYC and a lot of ppl tend to vandalize or Tap ur bumper when parallel parking so the alarm's siren is very useful for me in that it alerts ppl not to touch my car.

No STANDARD EQUIPMENT alarm for 3 series and no FACTORY iINSTALLED alarm --- only DEALER INSTALLED. The correct price is $490 plus appropriate tax. Install is pretty quick because everything isd there form the factory except for the hoo switch and the siren both of which can be installed in about 10 minutes. The real kicker is the ~4 hour software installation !!! There are NO motion sensors for the E93 in the US so if you want these as I did ... forget it !!
Save yourself some $$ - find one on the web and install it yourself then have the dealer program it for you. They will usually do for $50 - $100 or better yet wait till you need service and get a latest software install under warranty. It willl auto sense the alarm system components and install itself !!

I bought my alarm from Tischer.
Longtran installed it but it's fairly easy. I think I could've done it, probably in twice the time. Every thing works except it doesn't beep when I arm it. I'll try to get one of the Techs do it for free next time I am at the dealer. Activation is like $125+
