BMW theft without keys

Having just taken delivery of my new F30 Sport I was a little suprised to learn about the easy way to steal BMWs via key programming.

I have read that this doesn't affect cars built after September 2011.

I'm sure someone on here knows all the details, or can point me in the right direction..

Yes BMW state that cars after Sept 2011 have been updated to prevent this type of theft, as per the article below:

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/about/new...70000_,00.html

They are also offering a free update to pre Sept 2011 cars to correct this problem although the solution is still thought to be some weeks away, as per the following article:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/602...-hi-tech-theft

I have always been suspicious of comfort / keyless access to cars.

If they want your particular car, they will get it, end of story.
Just be insured.

Problem with that is according to Watchdog last night not all insurers are paying out for these thefts without key crimes.

I rang up about mine earlier and they said they it needed the fix. Was out by a month as it was built in Aug 11 I got it in Sep 11. But I've got to wait up to 8 weeks for them to book it in a fix it.

So go for a 316d ES in that metallic onion colour, beige interior, stick a set of 16's on it... and you should be safe

Auto Audio in London can install a thief resistant system. They are in the know of how to foil the swine.
