Half of a key fob in glove box
Was picking my mrs up from work earlier, was early so decided to have a look in the glove box as i don't think ive looked in there more than once since I've had the car.
Anyway, on the right hand side of the glove box I noticed something, didn't know what it was, gently pulled it and it come off and it was half of a key fob, not the button side, the other side of a fob. Its defo meant to be there as its got a nice slot it fits onto, I was just wondering why it would be there...........any ideas?? |

It'll be your emergency key. Iirc if you stick it in the ignition you can drive the car. You can pull a plastic key blade part out of it and keep it in your wallet and the other part of it stays in the glove box. If you loss your keys you can get in with the key blade then insert it into the other part of it and use your car. The key blade part of it must have a chip in it so the car will run.

First thing I thought too. Is the emergency key standard? With the current OBD theft issue, I wouldn't want a coded key in a factory location inside the car for thieves to access...
Off to have a look now, I hope I've just got the torch!

I have same bit in the glove box. Figured it was part of a valet key, I.e. stick your normal key blade in it when giving car to a valet. Not sure though.

It does.
You don't really need that additional key hanging in there.

Anyone know if you can get these replaced? Mine appears to have disappeared, but I've got the spot for it in the glove.

As I said. The idea is to carry the key blade and leave the other bit there. Strange idea I know as I was driving about with mine in there complete for ages. Saying that though my 07 E91 m sport doesn't seem to have one.
