Help - something weird just happened

Hi guys

Was just driving when I noticed my car went a bit sluggish. Put my foot down and the engine light flashed and went even more sluggish. Was just about to pull over but then the light disappeared and all was then ok. Put my foot down and all seemed fine.

Seems ok now but am slightly concerned.. Only had her less than a month

Any thoughts?

Thanks

The engine light flashed?

At the risk of sounding condescending, are you sure it wasnt the traxtion control light? If the engine light comes on, it shouldnt go out until the issue is resolved or the car is restarted (if it was just a sensor anomally)

This. Sluggish 4 pot petrol? 90% chance that one or more of your packs is on the way out. BMW have what they call a 'product enhancement' for this - basically its a recall, but you have to do the calling. Make sure they replace all the packs too, as if they only swap one, another one might go very soon!

Interesting Frobius.

Do you know what years were affacted? I have a 58 335i going in for a service next week and want to know if it's worth enquiring about this (although, touch wood, I haven't experienced any problems whilst owning the car).

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply guys. So I literally call up BMW customer service and tell them that the coil packs have failed? Would I need to tell them that I've had it confirmed/diagnosed? Would they do it for free?

I know that if I tell them the symptoms ill have to go in and they'll waste my time - as they did with my washer flaps not shutting. So any pointers on what to say to get the job done would be great!

Thanks

I think it's well enough documented that if you mention the 'product enhancement' that they should know what you're on about. They should do it for free but they might say that they'll charge you for the diagnostic in case it's not the coil packs, then when it is, they charge it to BMW instead.

The only thing is if it's not the coil packs, which would surprise me, then they'd tell you what is wrong and then charge you for the diagnostic.

If you're near someone with a coding laptop, they might have DIS and be able to do the initial diagnostic for you?
