Another Car stolen! DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOURS TODAY!
Morning gents,
My 2007 e90 (se) was stolen last night from Birmingham. There was broken glass on the side walk. I was up pretty much all night and heard no alarm go off (didnt even hear the glass getting smashed). Anyway, the police are doing their thing, but just wanted to warn everyone on here please please do something about this now! whether you get a disklok / move the obd port, DO SOMETHING TODAY (especially if your in birmingham / london). Very gutted about this, had been reading about bmws getting stolen for weeks now but clearly hadn't done something quick enough! please don't think it wont happen to you (like i did ). |

Sorry to hear about this mate. Must admit, I thought mine wouldnt be targeted as it was an SE and they would prob only be interested in m-sport, 335's upwards.
Totally agree, something NEEDS to be done about this as its just getting ridiculous how easily these cars can be stolen. |

Sorry to hear this mate.
Regarding relocating the OBD. Will the crims not just look elsewhere for it?

I have moved my obd port and put temporary decals of OBD disabled. In a process of finding printing company who can print those for our forum members on a reasonable price. (target is 3 decals for fiver including delivery) Also I looked at few options of car security system last night. There are few good options, however if I post those here and they are read by worng people, then those nutters will try to find out ways of deactivating those additional security systems.

There is no harm in investing. However there is no gurantee that your car will be tracked. It is very easy to de-activate those trackers. Best bet is to invest in a system with geo fence, but setting boundaries for your car may vary for different people here.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of the actual tracker that BMW use for the Connecteddrive service. I know that this must be easy to disconnect, but have any of the thefts led to the car being track down using this system? |

Then I started thinking from a different perspective. What can they get out of my car that can be sold easily? Hang On.... M sports body kit Alufelgens CSLs ICE and many others.... so at the end of the day, it will still increase funds in their pockets. There you go; OBD disabled, and now I am seriously thinking of investing to add some additional security measures on it.

I moved the OBD plug yesterday, bit of a pain getting the trim back in place but worth it for a bit more peace of mind. I'd think if they can't find the plug straight away they will just move on to the next suitable car

I think the OBD stickers may be a good deterrent, or alternatively a disklock to save your window? |

It does not look good to put disklock on your beemer especially when you are parking in a parking lot with other cars. Hence I am opting for OBD disabled stickers. However we do not want some random people putting just OBD stickers on their car without actually moving / disabling it, and if somebody break into their car and found out that they can be stolen, then all those car with OBD stickers will be at risk of at least getting glasses smashed. So please bear in mind, if you go for OBD disabled sticker, then make sure you actaully move / disable OBD port.

IT looking increasingly like the group buy with securemycar won't get much further so, like you, I'm also looking round at additional security systems. The problem is, unless it's on recommendation, you never know how competent the installer is & the myriad of security systems available is very confusing. |
