Looking for a 330D but need a little help

Hi guys

I made a post a week or so ago about selling my 320d and buying a 330d. I've now come to the decision to do just that thanks to everyone that helped on here

I know how much I owe now and how much I would get in part exchange so now it's just down to what model. I fancy an get an automatic and possibly an m sport although this isn't a necessity. I am looking at vehicles about 5 years old. I fancy one that is loaded with features i.e auto headlights/wipers, heated leather, pro sat nav etc. I just wondered how well equipped were the m sport 330D as standard? Did auto headlights etc come as standard on this model?

Also what is the 231 bhp engine like and can they be remapped?

Thanks a lot

Rob

Hey Rob,

I just bought a 330d M-sport and can only offer what I feel so far, which is its brilliant! (maybe still in the honeymoon phase!).

I cant keep out of it.... my toy was a 520hp Escort Cosworth which I thought nothing would satisfy me after I sold the engine/gearbox to buy the new babys taxi, but it pulls like a train and seems endless (maybe due to the auto box )

I seriously have no regrets selling bits and bobs to buy our 330d

We started off looking at SE, low mileage models but after realising that if we raised the mileage, better spec cars became available.... so dont be put off.

We also looked at a lot of examples.

Jason

Auto lights, puddle lights, cruise control are all standard.

The options to look out for are the navigation, xenons, heated seats, leather, auto box (for lazy hogs), through load system, audio upgrades

Going to trade in though and no doubt get shafted, been offered 20k by dealer, need 22k to clear finance.

Thanks for the replys guys

Mileage doesn't really bother me as long as it has been kept up with the servicing. I do 20,000 miles a year anyway so when it comes to sell it will be lower in value. Do auto wipers come as standard too? How much difference do xenons make visabily wise? I find my current car fine in this respect but then again I have never had one with xenons.

I have the pre-lci (231bhp) 330D manual, and yes it can be remapped.

Mine turned out to be 240bhp standard - quite common I'm told, now its 285bhp and pulls like a train, and I still get 38-45mpg.

Personally I had to have a manual, but you'll have more choice if you want an auto, as most of them seem to be these days.

I've driven Auto in the past just not anything powerful. Mine is a manual at the moment and I don't mind it just fancied a change. Reading about the kickback feature also had me intrigued.

Who mapped yours (I say mapped, do they actually pull the base map up from the ECU and modify it? Or is it just a piggy back program, over written).

I'm loving my E92 330d M sport manual with all the options you mentioned, I've come from an E36 M3 & obviously it's not as fast but the low down pick up makes up for this, especially as most of my driving is done in or around town so the M3 was wasted on me. Much more comfortable & easier to drive as well!

I was talking with the dealer about this one today http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...48jb?logcode=p

Spec looks okay but I can't see any paddle shifts for some reason.

Also this one http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...ge/1?logcode=p

High mileage but I'm not too bothered about that as long as it has been looked after.

What's peoples thoughts on these 2?

Cheers

If you're buying lci then 330 & 325 produce the same figures when mapped, if you're willing to go down that route it could save you some change to spend on spec / extras?

I just took a 58 plate 330 auto out for a test drive and I've got to say I was very underwhelmed. Firsty it rattled like a 20 year old London cab which didn't help. It was the window seals which I know can be fixed it just annoyed me on a 16 grand car. Even my girlfriend looked at me and laughed as she knows how ocd I am about rattles. The spec was good on the car including heated leather, folding mirrors and pro nav but torque wise it didn't feel all that different to my car. Mines been remapped but I just expected it to pin me in my seat when I used the kickback it just didn't happen. Talking of kick back there was hesitation before it dropped it down a gear. I didn't try the paddle shift gears.

Maybe I was expecting too much with my car already being remapped but I couldn't help but feel disappointed. Perhaps a manual one would suit me more.

When I first test drove one I felt the same- underwhelmed. Then I took an extended half day test drive and it was a totally different story - felt so much faster.

Not sure why. Perhaps it was because the salesman the first time was quite fat (power to weight ) and the roads we went on were wide, which can kill the illusion of speed.

The second time it was just me and wife hooning round the country side and it felt very swift :-)

So, go try another one!

Mine doesn't really rattle either.
