Bluetooth Problems During Calls
I'm suffering from a little bit of a problem with my bluetooth for phone calls. Not sure it its with my phone or with the car.
Every time I get in the car my smartphone (Motorola Droid 3 running Android 2.3) automatically connects and I can make and receive calls. However, if I'm on a long phone call (~5 minutes+), the call eventually "drops", or more like the car just got disconnected from the phone as the call is still active if I pick up the handset. One time that this happened I rebooted the phone, but it didn't reconnect with the car. I had to restart the car and then it reconnected. Has anyone seen anything like this? I guess I need to take it in for service? |

Have you tried updating the Bluetooth firmware in the car?

Thanks for the tip. I just installed the software update; I'll report back how it goes, but I'm not too optimistic. I read through the release notes and the smartphone compatibility fixes did not seem to mention anything related to the problem I'm describing. Any official way of reporting a problem like this, other than going through the dealer?

I'll add that like the other person reporting the same issue, I also have a F30 328i without the Enhanced Bluetooth. I've had this phone for over a year and never had issues connecting with my bluetooth headset.

Reading through bmwusa.com's Bluetooth Compatibility page I found a note saying:

Well... I am most unhappy to report that my problem has not been solved by the software update. I guess I'll need to take the car in for service, but I'm afraid of not being able to reproduce the problem when I'm there. I also don't see too many other people reporting similar problems, so I'm not sure if the problem may be with my phone instead.
I'll post if I find a solution. |

I have an iPhone and no problems, maybe the car wants you to change to the apple team; much nicer phone than an android and you"ll never look back once you join the team

I seem to have this problem also. The car disconnects from the phone periodically, whether I'm on the phone or not. I notice it most usually when I am displaying the Messages in BMW Office function - the screen moves from my list of emails/texts to "No Messages" for a few minutes, then refreshes on its own. I also missed a call during one of these periods so it doesn't seem to be only in the Office function.

I've got a Blackberry and no issues with mine. Don't have enhanced Bluetooth. My wife's Droid3 always drops calls, can't connect, or can't answer a call with Bluetooth enabled on the Verizon-provided Bluetooth earbud. May be a Droid issue, not a car issue.

It may be something to do with the phone as others have suggested. I have a Motorola Atrix 4G and haven't had any problems.

I'll say that I have narrowed this down on my side to indeed be a phone issue, nothing apparently wrong with the car (Flashed a new ROM, Maverick 4.5 for any other Droid 3 users, and the problem has disappeared).

Bluetooth
I've the same problem on my F11 . You can try to disable access to address book and calls list. The problem seems to be related to the capacity to handle voice and data for simultaneous

I have a Nexus 5 and have used an S4 and HTC One with no problems like this whatsoever. Gingerbread and Droid 3 are ancient in Android years, sadly. There were Bluetooth issues back then too.
Honestly, the dealer won't know how to do anything except try updating the iDrive software. And if you've already done that I would'nt get my hopes up. |

Same problem on my 2013 335ix and Moto X. I have narrowed it down to my address book size may be to large and is causing he system to go into an endless loop. With the phonebook sync disabled it seems to be behaving normal

What cell phone carrier do you use?
I have this problem when my verizon phone is also trying to perform data functions while I make a call. Verizon does not allow simultaneous use of data and voice phone, so if you make call it suspends data use during the call. However, if you using iDrive or other apps that take advantage of data use from your phone when you make a call, it seems to make the voice call flaky. I get static and frequent call drops when I am using my phone as a hot spot for Connected drive apps or when using Waze or Escort's (Radar) app.

Are you using an iPhone? Android phones support simultaneous voice and data. This has never caused a problem for me before. Just fyi..

Seems like this issue never got resolved for some people. I have long since upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S4, and now more recently to an iPhone 5, and Bluetooth works flawlessly. The Droid3 worked well with other Bluetooth devices, just not my BMW. I even tried custom ROMs on that phone, with disappointing results.
Replacing your phone for something more mainstream might be the only solution at the moment. |

This is a known issue with certain phones and there isn't really a magic bullet fix for it. There are just so many different phones out there running different operating systems with different Bluetooth hardware that it's impossible for all of them to work flawlessly.
The only sure-fire way of making sure you have a phone that works is by checking bmwusa.com/bluetooth to see if your phone is on that list. If it is and you're having problems, and your car and the phone are running the most recent software, then it might be a car issue. The vast majority of the time an issue like this crops up, it's either due to the phone not having the most recent software update or the phone just not being entirely compatable with the car. I have seen very very few Bluetooth issues relating to iPhones and Blackberries. Most of the ones I see are from non-major Android-based devices. |
