Rims?

Is it possible to order the luxury line with 19" rims on the 320d? Or is it 335i only in Aus like the US?

Garage List
I expect you can do anything for enough money. The ride would be harsh on 19's and RFT's though wouldn't it?

Although BMW offer 19" wheel/tyre combos (M-Sport as an example), the tyre aspect ratio for the front is 40 and the back is 35.

For the front at least, they are not the very slimline type. So they should have a reasonable degree of ride ability (even comfort).

BMW have sort of disguised the 19" wheels with slightly 'chunkier' tyres to address the harshness of the ride compared to a true low profile 19" tyre.

In buying the M-Sport, I do not have a choice in rim/tyre size, so I am happy for the aspects to be a little taller. My car, after all, will be driven on public roads around Melbourne and not on the track.

Good to hear that you find the ride good on the 19". The test car i drove had the 18" RFTs and I found the ride to be ok. In ordering the M-Sports, I thought it'd be a bit harsher on the 19" (which I'd still be ok with) but if it's not, that's awesome to hear

Doesn't the US require you to order 335 in order to be able to get the 19" rims?
I hope I can get the 19" on the 320d luxury line in Aus. I really don't like the normal luxury multi-spoke rims, they're hideous!

Yes, mixed 19" 401 wheels are a 320d option for $3,100.00 inc gst & (if applicable) lct.

Order the rims after you get the car for a few reasons:

a) you can resell the wheels that come on the car
b) purchasing afterwards would be cheaper
c) when purchasing afterwards you won't be paying stamp duty or LCT (if applicable) on those options!

same applies for all/most accessories.

Has GST been abolished?
If so, YAY!!! Somehow I don't think so.

Otherwise, you pay GST UNLESS it is a car owned by a business that is registered for GST and can claim it back.
Even so, one ALWAYS pays a tax of a sort on cars & their accessories, even after claiming back GST - it's called Fringe Benefits Tax or FBT.
I've been paying it for 20 years on my company cars. No way out of it if you want the car to be on the company with all benefits.

One proviso. If you can import goods for under AUD$1,000.00 from OS, GST does not apply.

I think he's talking about luxury car tax - being 30 (or 33?)% if over the threshold
