I have used about 6 different brands.
Top of my list (both illegal) GP thunders 100W (blue tint same as xenon) Philips diamond vision (purplish bluish) There are many others which are bright but colour is not same as of your LEDS.

"the lights that come on when the running lights are on" are the dipped beams, standard H7 bulbs for the halogen lights
If you're interested in light output from standard wattage bulbs you won't go far wrong with Philips Extreme Vision which are much better than standard bulbs, but don't expect them to match the LED AE, they may be fairly white on their own but next to my 10w LED AE there's no comparison - I'm more interested in performance than look so I'm not too fussed about it. As for fitting, it's a pig of a job, but if you replaced the AE yourself you were half way there, just allow plenty of time & expect to lose some skin. The worst bit on my 2010 e90 was removing the connectors from the H7 bulbs, I don't know whether they were just a very tight batch but they were very very tight & wrecked my hands. |

Yeah I changed mine a couple of months ago I had to take the wheels off to get proper access to the headlight panel that needs to be removed. Once that's done it's just a simple case of removing the h7 bulb and fitting a new 1.

With the LCI the whole job can be done from under the bonnet, provided you don't have hands like ham shanks - I did remove the covers from under the wheel arches, but only to give more clearance for removing the headlight rear covers
