Replacement speakers that fit?

Anyone with experience replacing speakers for the hifi system (non Logic 7) in an e90 please list your speaker selection make and model. I am basically looking for all my options that have been proven to fit the mounting depths in the 2007 e90.

It looks like the optimal mounting depths and sizes for this setup are:
tweeter: ?
midrange: 4" speaker with 1"-1.2" mounting depth
Sub under the seat: 6.5" speaker with 2.6" mounting depth

Is this right per anyone's experience?

The only speakers I have found that fit these specs are:
Morel Elates 6 (~$1300)

I have heard that people use the JL speakers: XR653CSi (~$360) but I don't see how they fit properly considering the specs.

It looks like Focals would be a mid range option but they do not fit the mounting depths I have seen printed.

Anyone have any recommendation for 3 way components?

+1 - I'd like to know as well. I just couldn't find any local inventory of e90's in SG w/aluminum trim with Logic7, and now I'm looking to upgrade my speakers. The overall quality of the HiFi system (non Logic7) is not inspiring, but I'm not interested in subwoofers that take up half the trunk.

I went with the Morel hybrid ovation for about $650/pair from woofersetc.com and added JL 10" sub in the trunk.

I think both Focal K2power 100 and Focal polyglass 100 should fit.
Earthquake SWS-8 is the the best almost direct fit to upgrade the subs under seats.

I have decided to get some Focal speakers. Here are the prospective model numbers.

Fronts: 100 KP (4inch woofer and seperate tweater)
Under seat subs: 165 KBE (6.5inch woofer)
Rear Fill: 100 cv1 (Integrated 4inch coaxial w/ tweater)

My research seems to show that all of these speakers should fit into the locations in my e90. But my fingers are crossed big time.

I have seen a spanish sight where I guy put the focals that i picked in the door and he also put a similar sized woofer into the sub enclosure so Im baseing my install on that.

Franciebaby - morel hybrids are coaxial (integrated tweater) not component right?

Hi,

I have the Focal's for the front stage , Morel's under the seat and
a JL Audio sub integrated into the storage bin in the trunk.
You can find pictures of the install at http://www.janixworld.com/330xi/stereo/post/

Below are just a few selected pictures of the front speakers and their install
including the under seat subwoofers and trunk.

and we've tried pretty much any available subwoofer , in the end the Morel was the best sounding one

Hth,

Jan

Are you sure? In the US the Hifi is the standard option. You can't even get the basic system in the US.

How much of an improvement in Bass is upgrading the under seat subwoofers? I don´t listen movies in my car that has 20-30hz thundering, so I guess the upgraded under seat subs would be just fine for listening some violin concertos Or radio stations in general.

all going into E92 335i. oh these things are so much fun. best part about growing up, better toys!!!!

I´m quite sure Focal has better sensitive than the stock speaker meaning that there is no more need to an amplifier than with the stock speakers. The best bang for the buck comes upgrading the speakers.

I remember meeting you and seeing your car in Mass at that meet at the zoo. Still sticks out in my mine and the cleanest E90 I have seen yet! Cheers!

Is the sensitivity of the stock subs really better than aftermarket?

WOW, jmh, that is a fantastic job! Well done!

I too have a 330i and I would like to try and put custom enclosures under the seats because I have a feeling that the OEM ones are just too flimsy and don't give the correct specs for aftermarket subs. Have you kept any dimensions or plans of the MDF box you built? I am afraid I am not as "crafty" in being able to fit an enclosure in such a tight space so it would be better if I could work with dimensions that have been obtained by professionals and verified by actual installations.

Thanks in advance for any info you can share on this.

Oh, and what is the model number of those Morels under the seats???

I got in touch with Focal yesterday and was able to get technical specs and dimensions for the Focal 100 KP speakers.

I just did the same thing. Was able to get the Morel Hybrid's for $590 installed! Went with a 10" JL W3v3 and a custom built rear corner sub box from Musicar. Used a JL 900 HD amp to power everything.
