Hi all
Just thought that it was about time I posted on here. I bought an SE E92 330D about a month ago and im loving it. Faster and more economical than my old mk5 DSG Golf GTI! I will post some pictures when I have the time to figure out how to do it. Its an 07 in black with leather and prof nav. It also has 19inch twist spoke alloys. The only thing is as its an se it rolls a bit in the corners. Ive read many a thread on here about eibach springs and is it a good idea or not on se shocks, it seems to be a 50/50 split! Ive been offered m sport shocks and springs off a brand new car fitted for £760 inc vat, do you all think this is a good offer? It would be fitted by a BMW specialist. Your thoughts would be very welcome..... Pics to follow when i figure it out, cheers |

Welcome buddy, sounds like a nice car, look forward to the pics. My advice is if you can spend almost £800 on springs and shocks, just buy some well branded / known coilovers and get them fitted by a good local garage. You'll pay the same amount if not tad bit more and also have the option of actually adjusting your ride height whenever you want from low in the summers to high in the winters... things you can't do with springs. I've just bought some coilovers after lots of research off a forum member and these are known to make customers happy with some very good reviews across most websites. For £650-£670 delivered and about £120-£150 labour, you'll be left happy :-) that's not to say you won't with m sport suspension, but it's a case of whether you want to have the option of adjustin height going forward. Personally, if 2 things were priced almost the same, I would gofor the ones which give me both functionality and looks over just the latter.
There are few brands like Bilstein, ST, KW, Eibach etc.. which are priced starting around the £1,000 mark +. Then there's the next step down but still very well respected and known, BC coilovers which are the ones I've bought (only from a forum member)..... you have others like Apex, Gaz, FK etc which also have fairly good to mediocre reviews but its just a very big world of reviews out there which can put you in an even deeper hole lol. First ask yourself: 1. Budget? A set of decent springs and shocks (like OEM or aftermarket) will cost around the same as decent / entry level but well built and branded coilovers. 2. Looks only? In which case go with Springs and matching Shocks 3. Functionality and Looks? Coilovers... end of. http://www.ssdd-motorsport.com/show_...hp?prod_id=796 These are bang for your buck and although I'm a newbie for this matter, I'm sure alot of people know and have heard of BC BR coilovers who can vouch for them given they are reputable. The link I've attached is through a guy called Teddy, super quality products (website stocks everything under the sun for BMWs lol) and he has a stellar reputation on these forums... met him personally and top guy. Lots of people have bought bits of Teddy so give him a call if you like to discuss your options - his suggestions are for the most part, unbiased which can only be a good thing! Most importantly, just be sure you are happy with whatever you chose, stocks/springs can make for a good setup indeed. Coilovers can be used for adjusting the ride height and other settings to give you a good personalised stance / ride - let us know what you decide :-) Last edited by AWBimmer; 08-01-2012 at 05:25 PM.. |

Ive not thought about coilovers,i will have a close look. I do like the idea of sticking oem though. It would be easier to sell on when the time comes. Ive heard off two garages that its a 4.5 hour job? A lot of my quote is labour. Thankyou for all your replys.........erm how do i put pictures up? I damned if i can figure it out! Cheers

It'll cost IRO of £150 labour which, yes does add up, isn't too bad tbh. My pockets do feel light but it'll be a good investment |

Looking good. Looks very much like mine.
Mine is an E92 335i SE which come standard with sport suspension and seats. It is much stiffer and a bit lower. The front could be doing with being lower still. |

I made the same move as you from a mk5 Gti to a e90 330d m sport, I got mine at the beginning of June and I love it. as much as I liked the Gti, I like the BMW even more, you get the best of both worlds in mpg and power.
great looking car you have, hope you have alot of fun with it |

Nice looking car ker. Do you have any side on shots to show the drop over mine? Mine is sat on a slope so it makes the front look slightly high. How do you know if you have sport seats? Mine has a button for adding air to the sides of the seats, its like having your blood pressure taken! I liked my golf gti,but the BM feels so much more solid. How does your m sport handle compared to your old mk5 gti?

the most noticeable difference between my old mk5 Gti and the 330d m sport is the front end weighs soooo much more than a Gti, I'm still getting used to it. also what don't help the handling is the run flats, I'm gonna put on normal tyres when the current run flats wear out, might be a while though as last owner only had a new set on a not long before they sold it.
how are you finding the sat nav?? took me a while and a couple of long trips which should have been short trips, to properly work it out. |

sweet car mate and welcome to the forum!
love the twists! some black grills to match your trim will look a treat tints to make it look stealth! the Eibach springs are good, nice ride to them also not too firm! on the Msport models they do not make much of a difference but on SE models they will! so eibach springs and msport shocks sounds like it would be a winning combo! but like awbimmer said it depends what your after, a drop for aesthetic reasons or for handling reasons? this will help make your decision between coils and springs! £750 seems a little steep to me mate...

Its birds of iver, they want £360 inc vat for the springs and dampers, the rest is labour! Im after 50/50 looks and handling, well maybe slightly more on handling I havent got a massive budget to do it as I would love to fit the se aero front, mmmm.
The sat nav is a bit disapointing,my wifes £150 garmin is so much better. I found my old gti had excellent turn in and a good ride, although it was only on 17s. |
