Post BMW Sales Increase in U.S.

i read this article the other day in the Business section, and thought bout sharing it..

"Bayerische Motoren Werke, the world's largest luxury carmaker, said U.S. vehicle sales increased 6 percent in June, helped by demand for the 3-Series and revamped X5 sport-utility vehicles.
BMW sold 29,394 cars and SUVs in the U.s. last month, compared with 27,735 a year ealier, the Munich-based company said today in a faxed statement. First-half sales climbed 4.5 percent to 164,338 vehicles.
BMW-brand sales rose 4.3 percent in June to an all-time record 25,220 vehicles, while demand for Mini models increased 17 percent to 4,174 cars.
Sales of the X5 SUV jumped 21 percent to 2,517 units, while demand for the X3 added 9.5 percent to 2,635 vehicles."

im sure things will change. this should work for the interest of consumers. more competition is always good.
It is, however, a good decision of BMW to release the car while the other cars are dying (old C, G35, etc.) BMW got a whole year of most of the market.

You better not be married otherwise you are in a lot of trouble.

Back on topic - I agree that once the new G35/37 and new MB C class are on line it will heat things up a bit. The new A4 dito as well. It is the nature of the car business, keep fresh product moving through the pipeline or else. Next year the 1 coupe should again stir things up (same platform as 3 series).

Audi Reports Sales for June

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Audi of America, Inc. today announced sales for the month of June. Audi sold 7,789 vehicles during the month, a decrease of 3.1% from last year’s figures. To date, Audi has sold 45,711 vehicles in 2007, a 13.0% increase over the previous year.

"Our outlook on 2007 is the same today as it was at the beginning of the year. The marketplace will be challenging, but for Audi we expect to be up year-over-year,” said Johan de Nysschen, Executive Vice President of Audi of America, Inc.. “Excitement around our growing performance portfolio has drawn a high level of interest in the brand. With a full line of premium sedans, a well-received seven-seat luxury SUV, and our upcoming sport coupes, Audi is clearly establishing itself in the U.S. premium luxury market.”

The seven-seat Audi Q7 SUV, as well as the A4 and S4 Cabriolets and A4 and S4 Avants, saw sales increases for June.

Notable sales increases occurred in the Central and Southern regions during the month. Several key markets recorded significant increases, including Atlanta (+32.9%), Miami (+30.0%), Kansas City/St. Louis (56.3%), Cleveland (+14.9%), Chicago (+9.0%) and cities in Texas (+71.3%).

Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales also are up for the year. CPO sales for 2007 total 12,867, and increase of 5.7%.

Audi’s history in America dates to 1969, when the brand was first introduced to the U.S. market. Today, a network of more than 260 Audi dealers currently offers a line of premium vehicles that include the Audi A3 compact; the sporty A4 sedan, Avant and Cabriolet models; the high performance S4 sedan, Avant and Cabriolet models; the high-revving RS 4 sports sedan; the design-leading A6 sedan and Avant; the all-new Audi Q7 performance SUV; the all-aluminum Audi A8; the new V10-powered S6 and S8 performance sedans; and the all-new 2008 TT Coupe and Roadster models.

Interesting that no one ever reports what really matters: market share.

If I sell 25K units a year and double that to 50K, that's a 100% increase in sales. But my market share went from 0.015% to 0.016%. So, I basically did zlitch to improve my position in the market.

So, tell me this. Did BMW actually improve it's market share? Or do it's increased sales just mean people are buying more cars in general? This question should be answered for both the overall market and the luxury/premium market.

-Dan
