Ok, I have to buy a car for under 20,000. I had a BMW and had to sell it due to budget and some setbacks. I want something that is fun to drive and smaller with good gas mileage. I am not a major car guy so I don't really know what car fits this really. What are some good, fun to drive cars? Thanks again everyone!

Slightly used Mini (NA or turbo....or, if you go far enough back, supercharged). Or do you want something that isn't a PITA to work on?

Mitsubishi Lancer in stick. It is a FUN car. Under 3,000 pounds and not too powerful of an engine. Get the 2.0 liter as it's more rev happy than the 2.4. And having a puny engine just means you'll actually be able to use it. Drop two gears and pass.

A late model E36 M3 coupe 5 speed, use additional cash to make sure maintenance is up to spec.

A E46 330i ZHP coupe

A higher mileage E46 M3.. though you would def run the risk of needing more $$ for maintenance and going above your 20k budget

BTW all your criteria are pretty subjective: What do you consider "good gas mileage" or "smaller" than your previous BMW? Did you previous have an X5 or 7 series or did you have a 1 series etc.

If your not a car guy just get a Toyota or Subaru, frs or brz if you want to spend a bit more for some fun and they are cheaper to maintain than a German car.

brz if you can even find one used on the market for 20k. I am sure there are ones out there... since I've been to dealerships and the dealer told me some guy couldnt wait for the one he wanted and bought the first one then when the one he wanted came in he traded his in and had a few thousands miles on it already because he couldn't stop driving it.

Yeah I agree with you on the head turner this was mine:

But there were things about this car I did not like, more-so on the 2010 (which is what I owned)...
