HOT tire pressures?
I know that all teh guides are for COLD tire pressure, but just how much extra pressure does a hot tire generate?
On my recent trip across the desert southwest, we were stopped in Ludlow AZ and it was 105 or so outside. I think the elevation is about 2000 feet there. I'd driven there from Laughlin averaging around 85-90MPH. The wife and kid were munching ice cream (mine was already wolfed down) and I decided to check pressures. both rears were at 42PSI (38 cold) and the fronts were both at 40PSI (36 cold) It LOOKS like they both went up by 4PSI, is that about normal? |

That's about normal. I noticed a 3-4 PSI increase when my tires are hot as well. Those molecules in the tires are still bouncing around pretty fast when the tires are hot.
