Just Got My 328i
Hi guys! I just want to say, this is my first post and first bmw. I got the 328i with sports package. Color is Sparkling graphite and black inside. I just went for a 3 km drive keeping it under 3000 rpm.
I just wanted to ask about a weird noise from the front tires. I don't know if it's because they are new but when the engine is on, the front of the car makes a weird whistling noise in a rythm. It's not an ongoing noise. It's more of a drum beat or something, whistling not whislting not not whislting. Does anyone have any information on this? Thanks. |

The engine sound along with the left and right front tires, if I no near by I can hear the high pitched wheezing noise. At first I thought it was the air condition but it just gets even louder if I turn the AC on. And it's still there when I turn it off.

Congratulations on your new car. I have a 328 Sports as well, love the car.
Can't say that I ever noticed a whistling sound, could be bcs the tires are new, could be just the way the wind blows-btw the runflats are louder on the road than non-RFTs - perhaps this is what you are hearing.

Yea I will give it some time. Also, if I just stay under 3000 rpm for about 1500 km, is that ok? or did you guys keep it even lower.
An important question I also wanted to ask was when you are turning FULLY LEFT OR FULLY RIGHT with your steering wheel all the way, do you feel or hear a grinding noise? |

Do you know if they removed your shipping spacers?
If the car looks jacked up with the wheels not 100% upright, maybe the dealer forgot to remove the shipping spacers. I have heard of this happening on rare occasions. Get it checked at the dealer ASAP.

Under 3K rpm is what I did but for 2,000 km (1,500 miles).

I would take her in to the dealer, you could have a belt rubbing or the fan itself (but more likely belt).

Sounds a lot like the fan on the car. Its really loud. Also from 3-4k rpm ish when the front fan is on and you have the A/C on low and no music you can hear the fan combating with the resonance of the engine and it sounds like a prop plane.

Yeah, my fan is really friggin loud... Just yesterday I left my car running at a gas station and could hear it about 50ft away and through a glass door... Thought it was going to explode or something.

The problem with mine though is the hissing noise that is rotating or something. It's probably the belt like you guys mentioned. I wonder if this would affect the engine badly.
