They are known to mostly do high end cars and are supoosedly very good. However, they painted the front end of my parents' 740il a couple of years back and did a horrendous job.

I can voucher for them myself since they painted my oem trunk spoiler and oem CF front splitters and they came out perfect and to top it off they painted both the spoiler and cf splitters Both OFF the car(meaning i didnt leave the car there for them to color match it)..the rear spoiler was done 2 months before i got the car and the CF splitters were done 1 year after i got the car...i used to work down the road from them and ive personally seen them do some good work...my .02

I haven't used them but I will tell you this from experience....99% of body shops mess up at least SOMETHING...its really a lose-lose situation. If its not completely neccessary don't take your car to any body shop. I have extremely high level of standards and got my car painted a few months ago and was not happy at all with it, (sanding scratches, poor metal flake matching, trunk didn't sit flush/align well with the rear bumper) even though everyone else thinks it looks fine. The only thing they managed to do right was not add buffer trails or overspray (which could of been fixed anyway, sanding scratches and poor color match cannot). I was pissed, and months later, I am still pissed. I had no knowledge of body shops at all (first accident) and went out on a reccomendation. I decided to not take it back since from experience the second time around usually is either worse or the same. The shop was Barron Body Works in Mineola, NY. Take everyones advice with a grain of salt, one person could have higher standards than another.

Where I live, there is a body shop around EVERY corner, I kid you not, and most of them do horrible work (it can basically be assumed). The body shop is out to make money, not fix your car the "right" way. The typical person does not care if their car comes out looking wrong. If you DO find one that does perfect work, please let us know! And post pictures! It would help a lot of us out.

Thanks for chipping in your opinions. My car is already with them for a week for a minor hood dent and I am expecting VERY GOOD work since another shop could have get it done the same day (7am drop off, 6pm pickup w/ another 1hr visit a week after for touch ups). I was thinking of pulling it out of the shop if they haven't done anything yet and go somewhere else. They promised me tmrw or Tue..so I hope they will do an extremely good job...like the dent was never there. Never heard any recommendation of them...so I'm kinda skeptical.

To the above poster, I am a lil anal too about the outcome since its actually minor, I'll definitely throw in some feedback after getting it back.....

If there is only a dent and no repaint involved you *might* get it back looking pretty good, only because they didn't need to sand it or prep it. Good luck

They may haave messed something up, and are fixing it, or haven't even started working on yours.....how long did they say it would take?

Sigh...finally got my car after two weeks and a bunch of excuses. Told me 1 week initially. They drop the total cost by a lil and compound/polish the whole car but did a pretty sloppy paint job, overall its alrite, but not perfect.....From the way it looks, they only started working on it yesterday. They repainted the whole hood instead of doing what the promised (fade in and reclear)... I hope I don't have problems such as bubbling later...fingers cross. I think they will probably do a good job if you plan on leaving the car with them until they have time to work on it (1 month? 2 months? 6 months?). It gets really inconvenient without a car, so I practically call them up everyday to check on the status this week.

Yeah, its unfortunate but it's futile to expect anything more than mediocrity from body shops. You're not alone in this, though. I was pretty dissappointed when I got my car back too. We should make a sticky on this subforum on good body shops.

Absolutely a good idea. Just saw your thread in the DIY section...i am not sure of the internals, but maybe you could try stucking some stuff under the bumper to sorta like lift it up?

V&S Motors does body work for Bayside BMW. They are located on Northern Blvd about a block from the Clearview Expy. They are across the street from the Bayside Dinner.
I never had body work done there, but they always did great work on the rare occasion that i needed work done when I had my Audi and VW.

Has Bayside BMW exclusively been using V&S? A few years back they severely damaged the metal rocker panels on my parents 740il during service. Baside BMW had it repaired and I later found out that all they did was fill it in with massive amounts of bondo. Now all the paint is flaking as well.

I wasn't too happy with the overall experience, though the work done is alright. I was without a car for 2 weeks. I wouldn't recommend them if the car you're sending is you daily driver. IMHO, the less time your car spent at bodyshops, the less likelyhood something unexpected will happen to it...so I would rather go to a place that won't take forever like Paul Petrone (glad mine is alrite). PP left their cars all over on the streets. Some goes into the shops and their extra storage but most are left on the streets all over. Bayside also recommended V&S but I read some terible things bout them. PP got nothing..can't find any reviews about them. Took my chances with PP (No reviews is still better than a bad review rite?). To be fair, I would still consider PP if I can leave my car there forever since their work is OK...not great but OK..sloppy 1 day work that takes 2 weeks...so expect to leave it there a few months for superb job done.

Poor Paint job by Paul Petrone&son Autobody shop!

This shop painted my rear bumper, it started to peel on the top part of the bumper, primer was not used. Paul took the car back and repainted the bumper, but it peeled in the same place again, no primer was applied again-WTF? The son Frank had a major attitude problem, and i didn't want to deal with them again, so Three Hundred bucks down the drain for a crappy paint job by Paul Petrone autobody shop! Yours truly, Baysideguy

I have gotten my fair share of body work done, and couldn't believe all the hype this place kept getting. I am FLOORED by how amazing their work was. DONT THINK TWICE, TAKE IT TO MAC. I have yet to see a SINGLE person complain about their work. My friend who is beyond anal when it comes to detailing his own car couldn't tell where the damage occurred on my car after I got it back. The body parts lined up perfectly, paint perfectly matched, factory glossy finish, it's amazing.

AGAIN, DON'T THINK TWICE, TAKE IT TO MAC!

-an EXTREMELY happy customer!
