Tint question - Does ceramic make a diff?
I have never actually looked into different tints before... Pretty much have just gone with whatever the shop uses short of picking how dark I have wanted to go.
On my 330i I went 50% fronts (crappy legal limit in utah) and 35% rears to try and blend without going too dark and looking funny. This time I basically said screw legal and am going 20% all around but was asked if I wanted just the regular tint or upgrade to a ceramic base? I hope that makes sense. Anyway I wanted to hear opinions.... I was told that the ceramic at 50% kept the car more cooler inside than a regular tint at limo dark... whether thats legit or not I would like to know. I am also curious if this affects how the car looks from the outside. Any direction would really help because it is more expensive and I want to make sure its not just a pitch.

I also plan on getting cermaic in the next couple weeks (FormulaONE Pinnacle).
I know what ceramic is, what it does, how much it costs, etc... But does it LOOK different than metallic tint? How so? Thanks! |

Yeah I was quoted $500 for all but the windshield for 20% ceramic. Not sure on the brand but will find out.

I'll be getting Johnsons Insulator @ 30% installed here in the next couple of weeks. I have a quote for $495 from a Eurocar specialist.

I called around to several shops, I think part of the pricing is supply and demand. In S. Florida, the land of tint I know there are hundreds of tint shops all fighting for the same business. In states with NO tint allowed or Limited tint laws I think the tint guys get a little cash happy. Sounds like you didn't get a ceramic tint though unless you got a buddy deal. Your price sounds exactly like every quote I have heard for metallics, and dyed tints. I'll tell you though, for $495 the tint had better be perfect and the car had better not have a single mark, stain, or water spot...

and for 500$ its probably 80$ tint, 420 install your paying... so again your getting raped in the ass, supply and demand or not, your getting raped in the ass and FYI metallic and dyed tint installs around here are <150$ so i did pay quite the premium |

Opinions opinions... "raped in the ass" is so harsh.
My problem is such that I am asking a guy to tint darker than legal. Which opens me up for an "ass raping". But along the lines of supply and demand... I agree. There are no where near the tint shops here in Utah as there are on the west coast or in Florida. Regardless, it is obviously an outrageous price... but I have called around and its not much better - plus I trust this guy. Whats a few hundred dollars anyway right ? A damn ticket to Disneyworld down there in Florida? There's a screwjob if I ever did see one.

Ceramic tint = Material more expensive. Cermaic tint (especially Huper Optik) = Generally harder to work with, therefore the labor is more expensive. When you get the best of anything, you usually have to pay a premium. This is universal with all products, car related or not.

i meen really? are you sure about that? just because you heard that from a tint installer because h wanted to rape you in the buttocks does not make it true, the simple fact that i got mine installed for 260 (i had cheaper quotes by the way but i like this place, and all the other were much farther anyway) proves that, yes it is f1 15% ceramic, and no there is nothing wrong with it point blank period, end of story |

oh yea and the people i had install it were via f1's site, one of the few authorized installers in the Orlando are (and it was still about 20 miles away)
so please keep doubting just because you dont want to accept you messed up and paid WAYYY to much http://formulaone.findlocation.com/search.aspx zip 32825, the close ones the ones who did it, the 40 miles away ones were a little cheaper but well... so go ahead, keep telling me i dont know what im talking about |

Stop making asinine comments. If you are paying the market rate, you are paying the market rate. You got it cheaper, good for you. It doesn't mean everyone in different regions can get the same price. The material is more expensive and the labor is harder on different types of film. Tint experts (not the tint shops) always comment on how tough Huper Optik is. I don't need to bicker back and forth with you. We can agree to disagree.

With 50% you can see out at night very well. People have posted the same with even 35% however I would never go that dark... Find someone whos done it and check out the view at night, I guarantee you'll be surprised. |
