120 mph is really stable!

Ok I got bored tonight and went for a drive on the 170 hollywood freeway at about 12:30. I was driving cause I needed to hear a track I just re-produced. As I was driving, this 2001ish Jetta and a Dodge Ram flew by me. Very polite they pulled over to the same lane and drove by.

We were the only cars on the road, which is funny because its friday night and at the time it was 12:30ish. I was already cruising at about 85-90 anything else seems too slow. So I decided to see how fast they were going by trying to match their speed. They kept accelerating and before you knew it I was going 120mph!!! It was suprisingly stable not much wind noise, as a little less than you would expect going 120. Steering was great, never tried to catch up to them didn't wanna be any more of an idiot and go faster. I've never been on the 170 freeway but its insanely straight and smooth. I love this car!

I thought trucks were governed at like 100 mph. That truck was movin.

Nothing is governed at 100MPH anymore. In L.A. driving style, that speed is quite common.

Do people get speeding tickets here? I hardly see a cop pulling over a driver for speeding.....

Yep, I agree with ya there. I did 122 mph on my way back on I-15 between the border and Baker and the car handled extremely well. Minimal wind and road noise. Very stable and the steering was stable as well. And the whole time I only put one hand on the steering wheel...very impressive handling. And while I was at it, I burned a 05-06 G35. Loved it!

I've seen people being pulled over on the 405 and 5 before, but I don't take those freeways on a daily basis. I mainly stay in the 818, but on weekend I venture out to Century City, Puente Hills, Long Beach, etc.

I'm glad I got the sport package cause 130 seems so easy to attain really fast.

120 your still at cruising mood. try hitting that baby up at 145+ ... that's when you'll start feeling the power. and even then, the car wants more!

I routinely cruise at 100-120 and the car is very stable and quiet, especially compared to my '99 A4 2.8Q. I've even maxed mine out at 152ish several times. I have 100% confidence in the car, even at those speeds. Unfortunately, I don't have that much confidence in the drivers I'm passing, so I rarely maintain anything over 120 for very long.

These really are fantastic cars.

I think you guys are insane to do these speeds in the states....you'll kill people and probably kill yourselves....if not you'll have your car taken away.... on a side note cruising at 120-130 on the autobahn in germany was very smooth for me.... would I do it anywhere in NY? NEVER.

Really? Then my '07 Chev pickup must only be able to do 100 mph It feels like I hit the brakes when the speed governor kicks in. Lots of vehicles are limited to 100-110 mph.

That's it, you've jinxed yourself. You are getting a ticket.

@OP, 150+ mph seemed stable on the Autobahn (great roads).

5th gear is a killer i maxed my car at 155mph, got there pretty fast and handles amazing at that speed specially I-94 is a twisty highway ............but i noticed when you go about 150+mph there is so much downforce the car lowers its self and allows you to take those twisty at high speed.....this car is like butter.........

Yes, they are.
I believe Chevy governs their trucks at the lowest speeds of any manufacturer. It's like 98 or 99 mph.
I think Ford governs theirs at 105-110.

And many minivans are governed at 105-110 too.

I laughed my ass off once on the ride from Phx. to LA when I was cruising at 80 ish and a guy in a new Chevy truck came up and tailgated me in my Dodge Grand Caravan.
I waited a second and then was going to pull over but before I did, he goes around me and flips me off.
The road was wide open, so I decided to floor it because I knew he was probably limited at 98 mph and I probably wasn't.
Sure enough, as I was approaching 100 mph he was like 4-5 car lengths in front and all of a sudden I started to reel him in very slowly.
I get up to 105-106 and my minivan cuts out.
So I drop back to 104 and slowly begin to creep by him.

I just pointed at him and laughed my ass off that he was getting passed in a new V8 powered Chevy truck by a V6 MINIVAN.
About a minute later when I was 1/4 mile ahead of him I slowed down.

He then passed me again but this time no finger, nothing, he didn't even look at me. LOL

Seriously, 120MPH in most NEW cars will be stable, the engineering has come a long way.

I would expect not a hint un-stability in a 50K 2007 BMW @ 120MPH.

120MPH (experience limited to Autobahn and Autostrada) in my 328iC was so uneventful that I almost worry that you could loose concentration. Over here looking out for the law would, at least. keep you focused.
