Last week, i left my car at the dealership to get its oil changed and while it was there a large fluorescent light bulb fell on top of the car, scratching the top of the trunk.

Today i went to pick up the car after 13 days at the dealer/body shop, only to find a few air bubbles, minor paint chip and crappy paint job in general. (even though the body shop has a good rep)

I after showing the defects to my SA, he kept the car to get the problem fixed.


=> Now I'm starting to worry that with what will be the 3rd coat of paint on my trunk, it will have problems adhering properly. I'm scared it will chip or flake easily. (this happened once on a ford explorer i had after the dealership painted it)


Should i have them sand the trunk and paint it again or is painting over it for a 3rd time ok?

I don't know what to do, i really dont want may 6 month old $52k car ruined.

I'm sure they will be sanding the trunk and doing it right this time. They were most likely hoping you wouldn't be too picky and they could get away with saving a few bucks.

I would imagine that it will be correct this time...

They can't paint on top of paint. They will most likely sand it down to primer or bare metal, re-prime it then paint it.

Incorrect. It can be done and it can be blended. Although it is not easy.
