1st I just have to say get what ever you like or is gonna make you happy in the longrun(Your thinking M right? or you wouldnt even be asking LOL) as its your money
My husband and I had the same debate as well but the M3 won out. Im more for handling and over all driving experience rather than just straightline speed. The fact is or from what ive read so far is that the only thing the 2 cars share is the boot lid, doors and Im not sure but side mirrors as well? So imo it would take quite alot more than just the usual "procede and exhaust". And like you mentioned any mod to a car esp engine mod is a risk. Sorry not much help I know, but good luck on whatever you decide. |

I purchased a 330i.
I plan to keep it for a daily driver...and purchase the M3 convertible when it comes out. The DTC transmission you speak of may not be offered until later production years. If you plan on staying in the military....you can always purchase an M the next time you deploy. |

Mod your 335 and enjoy it. It is one h3ll of a car, even if not modded.
You will only lose money if you sell it now. Wait a few years for BMW to fix the "bugs" on the early M3s, and then buy it, if you still want it, after getting used to this 335 monster torque

Order the M3 but only in a 6 speed. Trust me after a year you will get bored or hate having DCT in the car. I know on the E46 I hated SMG after a year and it started to have a lot of problems. Especially run away from DCT since it will be the first year production vs SMG had been out for a while in europe before coming to the USA.
But the M3 is not only a different car its a different life style, get ready to have everything and anything harass you on the road. Any ricer or sporty car that gets next to you will always be on edge and jumpy. Personally I am in the debate to get another M car or not, I seem to only look at the negatives from having a past M car about the harassment and road rage the car can bring you. And to think I could just get a 335i and put a chip in it and no one would know or give it a second glance. |

Thanks for the feedback. It seems like most people are saying go with the M. That is want I really want, but unfortunately there's always that nagging issue of the almighty dollar. The more I think of it, the more I'm considering the idea of holding onto the 335 for a few more years then trading for the M once the bugs are worked out. The only problem is that I'm not sure if I'll ever have the opportunity again to buy the car at the military rate + tax free. As much as I really want the M, its still a joy to drive the 335, so I'm leaning towards keeping it. I know I'm going to be envious when the M3's start hitting the streets, though...
