Limp mode after belt broke

Here goes my first post!

My 8 month old (12,500 miles on it) 335Ci had a power steering pulley failure 3 weeks ago. The belt got torn into pieces and it completely lost power steering.

After a couple of weeks in a crappy shop that couldn't get the pieces on time, I towed it to my dealership. When I parked, I noticed the "half filled engine" yellow light.

When I got my car from the dealership it went to Limp Mode at around 2000rpm. I checked under the hood and I noticed the air filter pipe that connects to the grill was missing! I drove the rest of the day like that and the next day I got the pipe re installed by the idiots of the first shop.

The thing is that the car keeps going into Limp Mode and the dealership won't even recieve it since their ridiculously small repair shop is permanently packed (first reason why I didn't take it there at first).

My question is, should I risk driving my "Limp" car for a few more days? If the risk isn't too high I'll do it since my old 325 is also at the repair shop, but I'll appreciate any advice!

Thanks!

Umm...was the 'crappy shop' a BMW dealer? Is the warranty and roadside recovery different in Mexico?

If that had happened to me, it would have been towed to a BMW dealer who would have had to fix it under warranty.

No. the "crappy shop" is not a BMW dealer, and I know it was not a really good idea to go that way; but I've had so many bad experiences with the dealer that I decided to try someplace else.

What do you guys think about the Limp Mode issue? How risky is it to drive in Limp Mode at this stage? I've read about these scary fuel pump stories...

Tnx

I wouldn't do this on a $50k+ car, get a rental.

Take it to the dealer and get a rental. Then again, since you took your car to a non-BMW shop and they're the one who messed something up, BMW might not cover it.

If I were you, I would take it to BMW and see what they say.

I thought about the rental, got some VERY expensive quotes down here and I ended up buying a Jeep :rocks:

I guess a high tech car is simply not dependable in a place where the dealership service is so abysmal

Anyway, I talked to the (other) repair shop that's working on my old 325 and hopefully I'll be picking it up today and the 335 can go to the dealership next week. I'll be ready for the loooong wait... I mean, it took them 6 months to get warranty replacement headlights!

Thanks for your replies.

my alternator belt blew, didn't go into limp mode, went into "red battery light", no power steering, no air conditioner mode.
