Did you know this about your bmw?

That you can still start the car shortly after turning it off, taking key away and pressing start button?

Imagine you park and are in rush, turn off, take key, jump out of car and doing first few steps walking quickly away you try to lock car, at the same time seeing someone jumping in and just pressing start, driving off.

Friend told me, works in my pre-lci e90 but apparently all cars are the same?

Please prove me I am wrong.

During the whole procedure, if you open the door, you cannot restart it without key.
Safety feature! Have a break, have a kitkat.

This is a great feature (not found in any of the extensive literature/manuals that I know of). I use it sometimes when I think of it.

Opening a door subsequently requires you to use your key and Start button; no other way of starting the engine as far as I am aware.

Ok just tested it. Park, turn off, take key away, get off the car, close door, count to 3, open door get into car, clutch pressed + start button, engine starts without key.

Am I missing something ?

I have been told about it myself, friend shown me how he could steal my car. I turned it off, while I was getting out he pushed me, jumped in and started the car. I was like wtf.

Pressing the start button unlocks the steering lock and you can drive without problems:

Isn't it another thing with BMW's making them easy to steal ? BMW should come with solution rather than not telling anyone ?

I always lock so not an issue but I think while your getting out someone can knock you out, and hi-jack the car without worrying about stealing your key.

W-T-F car did I just buy? Seriously, all these easy methods to steal my car is making me mad. I'm reluctant to even get it serviced anywhere now. Gonna have to take up a mechanics course just to maintain the thing on my own.

It's an Anti Hi-jack feature, the car can be driven away, but will stop about half a mile away with the lights and siren's flashing.

Although haven't tried it as you have to leave the car at your start place, leaving the key in the car means the immobilisor sensor still see's the key - Tried that one!

Not on mine, I can drive it as long as I want without the key in and it doesn't turn off.

Quite good in the winter if you want to warm your car up before you get in the car. (I know this could potentially mean that someone could break the window and steal the car).
