SIRIUS Satellite Radio Retrofit

Hi All -

anyone know if there's a cheaper provider to enabling Sirius/XM other than Bimmertech:

http://www.bimmer-tech.net/index.php...ive-retrofits/

Seems like a lot considering all they're doing is enabling a code online???

Cheaper???
Have you asked your dealer about this retrofit?

We are offering you the same solution with free 1-year subscription MUCH cheaper than you can get anywhere else.

I used BimmerTech for the Sirius retrofit in my 2013 F30 today and wanted to let everyone here know how great the experience was. I ordered the retrofit through their site and received a cable about a week later. After receiving the cable, I sent Patryk an email and he immediately responded with instructions on how to schedule the coding. It was a simple and very quick process done over the internet - they provide all of the software and it's done in about 15-20 minutes.

I HIGHLY recommend them for their services. I saved a lot of money by having them do the Sirius retrofit over the dealer, and they were much more pleasant to deal with!

So we can have sirius enabled on cars that didn't get the premium package? Looking on the bmw site you can only get sirius by ordering the premium package, just want to make sure there isn't some other package I may need.

Thanks

Hi, I am not sure about cheaper, but when I inquired at my dealer, I was quoted around $800. That's in Canada. The interesting part was that they said they had to keep the car all day because the software update and coding takes a long time. Bimmertech sems to go much much faster?

Satellite radio is not the same as digital radio.

Yep, they charged me 900 for this retrofit (also included the 1 year subscription). Wish I would have known, 330 is a steal compared to that.

The only package i got on my car is the tech package. Can I purchase this Sirius retrofit from bimmertech and make it work?

Thanks

Listen to it first in a similar BMW first and make sure you want Sirius. I have a 1 yr trial and I don't listen to it because it sounds terrible.

Hi,
From what I know, you need to have option S693A (Preparation BMW satellite radio) to make the Bimmer Tech option work.

If you don't know the options you have, you can check you packages through putting the last seven digits of your VIN HERE

Or directly ask Patryk at Bimmer Tech HERE to see if the tech package works for the retrofit

Thanks Buzzman.

Actually all US spec F30's I have seen had the Sirius prep option (SA693) so it looks like it's a standard feature no matter what packages you got.

I think there's another one near Montreal that can order the FSC code to activate Sirius.
I
Don't remember the name though.

ALL the cars come with Sat Radio installed in the car.......its just a matter of activating it.

BMW charges an arm and a leg for something that takes less than an hour to do. I guess they figured "hey its cheap to preinstall in the car, and when people ask for it, we'll recuperate the loss"

Bimmer-tech is the cheapest alternative that I know of. I wish 1 year of "free" service wasnt included....because I know its not free, you're basically paying for it....and most likely at full price whereas I've been able to get my subscriptions for as little as $5 a month. why pay more for the same thing?

Bumping this thread, I'm taking delivery of a 335 that doesn't have Sirius. The dealer charges $399 + 2 hours labor, so $650!!! F that, what a racket.

I'm certainly interested in the bimmer-tech option. Any recent experiences?

I had this retrofit done, but not by Bimmertech, nor by the dealer.

I'm presently on my 1 year free subscription, and liking it!

All you have to do is get an FSC code for your car from BMW AG.
for the threads in the coding section.

Yes. Search the threads. I coded my car and bought a FSC code. I received 1 year free with Sirius when I called to activate my receiver. I did this for a fraction of the dealership cost.

Got the retrofit and its a great deal. but, after 9 months, recently my Sirius gets stuck when I start the car. No channels displayed, no "acquiring", just "category?" displayed. It's like the computer didn't boot up right. It's not caused by the Sirius end. anyone seen this?
