E92 smoked backlights

Are smoking your backlights illegal in the US? I live in California

Does anyone have pictures of their E92 smoked? (possibly with only the red part smoked and the white left alone, but any kind of smoke in general?)

they are not illegal as long as you can see them from a distance of 500ft

i had them for a while on my e90 ive never been cited for them even while getting fix its for tints/plates...

...their illegal but from what a friend at the chp told me he said they dont really bother about that as long as they can see you braking..

but remember get 3m smoke film dont paint it paint makes it too smoked and it gets you pulled over.

Most laws require you be pulled over for a moving violation, and then ticketed for the nitty gritty:

1. Window Tint
2. Obstructions - tinted headlights/taillights
3. Obstructions on the dash

The way I understand it, any headlight/taillight that is not DOT approved, is considered illegal. Light bulb changes, smoked tint, etc are altering the DOT approved manufacturer units. However, the "Altezza" styled tail lights are legal since the lighted part is still red (unlike the white relfector styles before them).

do what i do, dont get pulled over and they cant really do shit unless your speeding, most cops in cali will let you slide, most likely if you have limo tint on your windows itll get ticketed but when i got pulled over they didnt say shit about anything on my car

any type is illegal but as long as its visible its ok.
