Logic 7 surround sound - random volume changes
Hi all,
Anyone noticed with surround on that the volume changes randomly? I have tried MP3's, CD's and the radio and it happens at random on all of them.

No, I have turned the speed dependent volume off. The volume randonly increases a small amount for about 5 secs then reverts back to the original volume.

You cannot turn off the SVC. You can only lower it to the minimum, which will still increase the volume of the music by a little when you increase your speed and decrease it when your speed is lowered.

when my speed dependent volume is all the way down, I still notice the sound going up and down even though I'm going the same speed. This happens when I'm driving slow and fast. Now, the my car just sounds bad all around, whether i'm play cd, radio or aux. Any sugguestions?

I have my car now 2 days and I noticed it too. Speed vol to zero. It is not even the sounds gets louder, but that certain frequencies (high tones) get louder but not the bass. This is even I am driving at the same speed, so speed vol should not kick in.
This is all MP3's have not tried real CD's that might not gave this problem. Anyone having ideas, I am interested, because it is annoying. |

Guys, I am desperate as well, dunno what to do, I have exact the same symptons, changes in Trebles and Bass without any change in driving speed, music source or whatsoever.
If ANYONE will have found out what the root cause, PLEASE post it! |

Picked up an '08 e92 335 on Sunday and mine does it with the iPod playing. I think the chord in the center console is dodgy, so I am going to ask for a replacement. I haven't experienced the issue with the other modes yet.
I thought it might be the speed volume as well, because it kicks in at various speeds between 60 and 70 mph, but it isnt consistent. So if you are in traffic and up and down speeds, it sounds pitchy! |

Got a new iPod cable and it definitely fixed the problem that I had noticed. I havent noticed it (other than the speed volume) since.

Your Logic 7 system has processing that is similar to a 5.1 surround system in your home. What actually happens is that instead of having left-right stereo linke conventional sound systems, you also have back to front "stereo" effects. Those of you having the problem most likely have your fader set more biased to the back. Try setting your fader to 0 - worked for me.

... also, remember that Logic7 also has speed-dependent equalization in addition to volume. I don't think that this equalization can be manually adjusted.

I have a brand new 09 335i xdrive, and it's happening to me with CDs. It has never happened with Satellite or FM radio as the Audio Source, and the CD's are not CD-R or CDRW format - these are CDs straight from the music company factories. Due to the heavy changes in spectrum and f/r balance (as noted above), I have the Logic7 surround feature turned off. I only use it occassionally when I feel like adding dimension to the sound, so this issue (for me) isn't related to the surround sound effects.
I'm quite certain this is a bug in the audio system, as it happens when I am sitting still with the engine turned off. The other day, I was sitting in the parking lot waiting for my wife, and the sound level kept going up and down randomly. Like others have noted, the volume changes for about 5 seconds and then goes back to normal. It's really irritating, because everyone thinks I'm messing with the volume control and it is very obvious to everyone in the car. I still need to do some more tests to accurately define this problem, but in the meantime I wanted others to know that it's not their imagination! |

refer to my Logic7 EQ thread. It address many issues, and this is one of them.

I've read through the Logic 7 EQ sticky thread, but I'm having a sound amplitude issue across the whole frequency spectrum while not using any surround whatsoever (and not driving). Everything from the low bass to the highest highs are reducing in amplitude for approx 5 seconds, and then the amplitude fades back to the original level. I've also encountered the fading issues when the surround mode is used, but that's not what is happening here....that is much less extreme than what I'm encountering.
Some times, I listen to an entire CD and no problems occur, whereas other times the sound amplitude goes wild. I suspect I'm losing 2-3dB across the whole spectrum when this occurs, but I haven't caught the event on a decibel meter yet. With the recent holidays, time has been at a premium. I've been building speakers for approx 20 years, and I have a strong engineering background, so I have a decent ear for what's going on. I haven't yet run a spectrum sweep inside the car using my laptop, but it looks like your recommended EQ settings are right on the money based on what my ears are telling me. Thanks for taking the time to post those results, and thanks for responding to my post. |

same problem with Logic 7
Has anyone found a solution to this? It is not sound effects or the speed volume control. I have only noticed it on CD's.......but thats usually what I listen to. I changed the equalizer settings to what some on this board have said.
I thought maybe it was reading scratches on the CD's but it does it on brand new cd's also. It is so intermittent that it will be difficult to explain to a technician or "show" them. My car only has 3000 miles on it so I have been waiting to see if I have any other issues before I take it in but except for a buzzy rear speaker thats it. |
