Question 2006 E91 iPod Interface - Missing Playlists

So I just bought a new iPod (5G 80GB) with a new computer, thanks to the wonderful Apple student discount thing, and I am now having a problem with my iDrive accessing my playlists on the iPod. I previously used an 1G Black iPod nano (4GB) with my car with little to no trouble. That iPod had roughly 25 playlists. The problem arises now that I have an 80GB iPod and am able to duplicate my entire iTunes library onto my iPod. I have 87 playlists on my iPod, but when I connect my iPod to my car and scroll through CD1, the playlists stop around the P s, just before I get to the Purchased Music playlist. Does anyone know why this is happening or know a way around it? I have been able to live with the minor annoyances of the iDrive & iPod kit, but this is too much. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

I've got a 60Gig 4G with the exact same problem. I've had the ipod kit since Feb and Have yet to discover a solution that works well. I ended up using an older 40Gig with all the playlist and it seems to work just fine. I think it's an issue related to the number of actual songs or artists on the ipod. I have the exact same number of playlists on the 40 and 60 gig, but the 60 has every song (11000+). My 40 only the songs associated with the playlists on it (~9000 or 10000). No one knows. You could try this: only have the songs on your playlists synced to the ipod and see if that works. If it doesn't, I don't know what to suggest for ya.

dont really know about playlists, but it can only do 255 albums or artists. says somewhere in the manual. would reckon it has to do with that the kit stores the info into the kit for quicker browsing, so probably memory no big enough...

I think this is a limitation of the dealer-installed iPod adaptor.

It's a hardware limitation of the audio system. It limits the number of songs to whatever if can handle. I can see all of my playlists, but if I go to Artists it only shows till about P. It was really frustrating for me because I paid all of this money for the iPod adapter and it doesn't fully work.

One thing i've noticed that lets you play any song is the first playlist it loads everytime with your iPod's name as it's title. I can play any song from any artist from that playlist but it takes awhile to find the song you want. Usually i'll do the random song until it's close then I scroll to it.

I tend to use this method because there is no delay or loading time when i'm on CD-1, or playlists. If I choose CD-2 it takes a few minutes to even display anything.

Does anyone know if the 6FL fixed this?

Does anyone have a problem of no playlists showing at all? I have a 4g 30GB ipod running on factory installed USB interface/Idrive... all artists, albums and songs show (about 3000 songs) but simply no playlists. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem on a 2GB ipod nano. My car was produced on 8/07. Took this issue to Glendale BMW and told me it was my problem and not the cars. They refused to updated the progman. The only thing I haven't tried is a different ipod or the y cable. Not sure what to do at this point.

So this is interesting.

I have been having this problem with iDrive freezing almost every week or two. Anyway, I took it back to the dealership after raising the issue once and was told no codes showed anything. Well this time I tracked the times it happened and kept a full record of each instance and what exactly happened.

So, the dealership finally decides to reprogram my iDrive. They kept the car for a good 2 days (had a nice loaner 335i sedan) and came back to get my car after the reprogram. Keep in mind I received my car back in 07/07. The reprogram actually fixed the playlist issue on my iPod video (60GB). All my playlists are on, the dial jumps now in a faster mode when scrolling through playlists, and the device returns to the playlist you currently are on once you go back to view all playlists (ie it doesn't always start back at the top if you are listening to say playlist "Sting Mix".

So, the new reprogram fixed this issue and so far the iDrive freezing issue has also not reappeared.
