It's typically called a "software" update, and yes it's real. BMW releases software updates for all of its cars every month that cover lots of the various modules in the cars (engine, transmission, iDrive, etc). Not every update has changes for your specific car's option configuration or even your car model though; sometimes the new releases are just to provide support for new options/models that BMW has started offering, with no fixes/enhancements for existing hardware.
Dealers typically only install them for free even under warranty if BMW has posted a bulletin indicating that a software update will resolve a particular issue you're having, but you can always ask them to do it at your cost I guess. If you're outside of warranty, you have to pay whether or not there's a bulletin.

Thanks for answering
I have some little bug with my system. For example if I listen music with the HDD when I stop the engine, when I restarted it, the system doesn't able to display what I was listening. I'll ask update to my dealer |
