Does 335i run cooler than 328i?

After having my 335i for a couple days, one thing I've noticed is that the car seems to run about 20 degrees cooler (according to the oil temp gauge) than my previous 328i. I've driven the 335i in both city and interstate traffic and it hasn't gotten above 220, whereas the 328i would peak at about 240 when I would run it at interstate speeds.

I had previously believed that the turbo cars ran hotter than the N/A versions, but I was apparently mistaken. Has anyone else noticed this?

The Temp gauge in the 328 and 335 isn't the Oil Temp. It's the coolant Temp. Did you install separate oil temp gauges in each of your BMWs?

328 do have oil temp gauge. Those that don't have an MPG gauge.

On the 335 the gauge is absolutely oil temp, but I believe it's true that on the 328 the gauge is for coolant.

Under normal driving, my car runs around 235-240 generally. During aggressive driving it not quite hits 250, and I don't think I've ever gone over that.

It's an 07. Maybe it has an oil cooler on it?

Most people here will tell you that ~240 degrees is the normal operating oil temp for a 335i. Since you are seeing ~220 degrees normally, I would suspect your gauge or sender. It's also possible the previous owner installed a lower temp thermostat for the oil cooler. I believe the stock thermostat opens up to allow oil to flow through the cooler at 240 degrees.

Got an m-sport package, with the upgraded oil cooler and intercooler- I assume I could track it to my hearts content without worry, or so I'm told

FYI - the M Sport package does not include either an upgraded oil cooler or intercooler. Both of these parts are exactly the same as you'll find on any 335i.

It is most definitely an oil temp gauge. No E9x has a coolant temp gauge. It's either an oil temp or instant MPG gauge.

335i might be cooler due to oil cooler.
