tipping the service manager

Is it custom or at least a good idea to tip the service manager or guy writing your car up for service at the dealership?

why?

im sure he makes a decent salary where you dont need to tip him.

But i guess if you want someone to give you more of a red carpet treatment it might be a good idea

Why the hell do you want to tip someone who's trying to rip you for more money? They are on commission, they're job is to sell you shit you might not need

+1

It's not like they're waiters or another occupation where tips are considered part of their salary.

I think a cash tip is tacky, can be construed as a bribe and is probably against BMW's customer relations policy anyway. However, at Christmas I do give a my SA a nice bottle of his favorite whiskey as a token of my appreciation for the courteous service I get all year.

I tend to give a gift card to a nice restaurant. People give him wine and whiskey all the time but he doesn't drink so a writer gets is. But hey if he takes car of you on things they shouldn't why not?

My SA pushed quite a few buttons to get me a replacement key (mine was ugly and scratched up) and emergency work order. Lunch was on me that day.

That's definitely worth a reward, but I've never had a SA stick their neck out for me or do anything that wasn't a basic service requirement. Their extent of customer service, with me, has always been you are a customer, we have some service. kthxbye.

I guess I'm also jaded with salespeople at dealerships too. I think the vast majority of both SAs and sales people at dealerships is that they're there to get you in and out with you leaving as much coin as possible behind. I get better service at the Wendy's by my office

Tipping is out of Control

Now it seems you are suppose to Tip everybody just because they breath oxygen no matter if they have delivered you good service or not.

Why would you want to tip someone whose job is to rip you off to the fullest extent legally possible? That's like tipping the clerk at a payday lender.
