In my experience, unless they're heavily lacquered they will stone chip very easily.

Looks a lot better though.

Much better, but as above post, without laquer they will chip like hell!

Thanks.. There is about 2 layers of under coat.. 4 layers of black paint and then lacquered ... Will see how long they last, if they chip I will just order the correct ones.. At least I get to see what it looks like before I buy them .......

Thinking about doing this myself, albeit buying black grilles but do you think black grilles on a black car might be a little much?

looks great! looks good on Msports as it flows with the gloss black shadowline trim...

I had actually replaced mine with the BMW performance ones, which happened to fade very quickly, just lost their depth of shine so was rather disappointed and resorted to spraying my performance ones in gloss black, which until now (almost a year one) have no stone chips!

Personally, I'd do it. It really makes the car look more meaner in the sense that the car front looks like one massive unit. The chrome sort of deters that a little in my opinion.

Mind you, I love murdered out cars so I'm biased

JamJay,

I'm thinking abt the black grilles on my black car too but concerned that black on black may be too much. So thinking abt just the vertical bars as black and keeping the surounds chrome the same.

I think this is already standard on 325i/d so does anyone have a photo of black car with chrome surround but black grill as a go by ?

Ta,

Dave

OP it look really nice. Only concern is stone chips as already mentioned.

Those who are concerned about having black grills on black car, I had same worries.

I ended up mixing performance grill + Chrome. Bought performance grills and chrome grills and done something like what 1SH posted.

I liked it, but at some stage, I started thinking that how would my car look with black grills?

Will post some photos of E90 with performance grills + central chrome bit.

Hi lee I bought all the stuff from B&Q... It was £7 a tin , I bought the Plasti Kote paint it don't take long to dry in between coats....
I am pleased I did it, this is the first thing I have ever sprayed... So was a bit bricking it if it didn't work correctly.... But it did and I am happy with them.....
