A startling number of service advisors are CLUELESS about the power kit
The vast majority of dealerships I've called to inquire about this upgrade are completely stumped, have to take a time-out to "find out" and call me back.
They are all over the map with how much it would cost to install, with some eventually quoting 30 minutes labor, and others saying it will take two or three hours. So... I have the PPK in hand. I want it installed. I have a number of service departments supposedly calling me back. The quotes are all over the map. They never know what the difference is between stage 1 (software only, a revelation that's usually met with "that doesn't sound right to me" from the SA) and stage 2 (additional cooling hardware). Frustrating. Cool story bro, right? I don't have a point. I'm just annoyed and wanted to vent. |

I was with the guy driving the shuttle (a 6 speed 535i) and one of the SAs did not know how to reset the tpms.

It's really about the time it takes to program the ECU.
Labor is negligible on stage 1. Stage 2 on the other hand.... Slapping those hideous power performance stickers all over the engine bay is probably most of the labor |

Lol most service advisors just know how to ask the tech how long it's going to take. There are a few that actually know cars and like modding

Tell them to look at their own company's website. Ha. Yes, very frustrating they still don't understand their own product.
Anyway, it should take an hour for PPK-1, as it's only a software update. Some dealers I spoke to tried to build in extra time, as there were initially some reports that the DME needed upgraded first, more time, and then they would install the PPK-1 after that. My car is still under manufacturer's warranty, so I told them any DME update should first be covered under warranty and per BMW the install only take 45mins to an hour. I can't locate it, but I believe someone had posted the actual install sheet from BMW and I believe it had 45 mins on it...don't quote me on that. Nevertheless, it shouldn't take more than an hour for just the PPK-1 update.
