f**cking pot holes

felt a liltle vibration in the car when getting up to speed so i took it to bmw for inspection. i have 18" rims on all for tires+ run flat tires combining with sport suspension = rough ride. so every lil pot hole feels like a canyon . after the inspected it, three of my tires got bubbles mind you they brand new tires and all four rims are bent.
they asking for $2527 to fix the rims put new tires, balance them, and everything also an alignment is included i think

i dont wanna do that then later run into the same problem later wouldnt it be better to get 17" rims cause im guessing my tires would be thicker smoother ride and less chance of them getting bent

ur thoughts plz

17's would be better than 18's. the most important thing is what the rim is made of and how its made. if you get Forged rims then they are very strong. also, now than you are aware of your driving over potholes now you may be able to avoid them more. get rid of the run flat tires they get bubbles more than regular tires.

Go 225/45/18 instead of 225/40/18. Forget it if you are on a lease.

18s have no problem. just get regular tires none-runflat. cheap and good tires are Hankoo V12s and Contis DW

You probably live in North Jersey...

I'd say stick with the existing rims (if you can get them repaired at a resonable price) and get NON-RUNFLATS.

If not then go for a size smaller and you'll weather the potholes better.

EDIT: buy 4 used rims on the forums... you'll get em for much less. then the $1600 they are figuring

my buddy cracked 2 front wheels and f'ed his suspension in Boston because dumbshit road workers didnt make a smooth patch on the road after repair. they all think its good since they drive trucks.

i bent all 4 wheels in 335i with runflats in Saugus, MA..... fortunately bents were not that bad

IT's a coffee cup from cove haven one of the caesars poconos resorts !

road reflector...

was 300ft outside of work and truck in front dislodged it... then my rear of the car was jacked up in the air going 60mph. it was a FML moment

tire insurance paid for $500 of the repair (they were cheap on the tire and rim) and had to pursue the state for the difference. needless to say the car vibrates at 80 mph... hopefully it just needs a hunter roadforce balance (already had alignment and shitty balance)

I am dealing with balancing/vibrations nightmares myself now. Tomorrow is going to be visit 6 i think. I hate it.....start/shut-off the car, multiple test drives by some kids, etc

Bought BMW wheel and tire insurance this time around when buying this car, and so glad I did, because I know it will be worth every penny and will more than pay for itself over the life of the car.
I've had some extraordinary good luck lately, or perhaps I am talented in avoiding them lately since I hit so many in the past.
I'm sure I'll whack something at some point or another and I have 19s!!!

No offense but you must be ripping on some bad roads to cause damage like that..I've had 2 bimmers with 18's and one with 19 inchers and never got a bubble let alone cracked a rim.Back roads and secondaries i watch the road in front and never speed(Save that for the thru-way) Feel your pain though..Good luck with the damage but don't think 17's will help but maybe non-run flats more likely the solution.

how much % off is the rotation? I wish BMW did 45's on the e90....my winters which are 225/45/17 ride so nice!

as some have stated above, just get new tires... non-RFTs are the way to go. run-flats are expensive and bubble extremely easily. one bad pothole and they're gone.

My winter wheels were my inspiration as well. According to the calculator in the other section, that is 3.4%. If your shown speed was 60mph, the relative actual is 62. In theory, doing so lower both the acceleration & consumption by an hair. I am very pleased with the result. I fixed three wheels and replace 1 tire with the 225/40.

Unless you have the wheel/tire insurance Why go to Bmw to fix bent rims, they quoted me 200.00 per wheel to fix where as an independent rim shop Is about 100.00.

Been in the same situation as you! Stick to the 18's and get rid of the run-flat tires and get regular tires. Go for the Conti DWS - you willlll be satisfied.
