What is a meth kit? HELP PLEASE

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what a meth kit is?

What sort of BHP do you get from it?

Do you need any other modifications before you can add it

How much does it cost?

Thanks for any help in advance Lee

Methanol Injection.

You feed methanol, usually diluted with a proportion of water, into the intake system on a turbo car.

It is similar to water injection that was popularised in the 80s.

Basically its a frig to enable higher boost and keep detonation/knock at bay by cooling the cylinder temperatures.
In engineering terms a band-aid, a properly designed system would allow the kind of boost and fuel without it.
But as we are constrained by the oem engine compression, and many other things, Meth allows more boost on non-race grade petrol.

On the 335i its fed through an atomising (spray) nozzle under pumped pressure into the intake charge pipe between turbo and engine.
It's carefully metred and measured.

You do need it in conjunction with other mods that add more boost, and of course fuel and timing adjustment.
Pushing meth and water into the engine alone just wont work at all.

The Juicebox4 from BMS can handle all these parameters quite simply.
Its only a few hundred pounds to implement, and you need no other mods.
In fact on an otherwise stock turbo car its the cheapest way to up boost (more power) with a remap without doing anything else.

Downside is you need a water tank in the car and it can gobble it up fairly fast. Methanol isn't really that cheap or easy to locate in UK.
Its also HIGHLY flammable undiluted so installation and filling of high doses of meth needs much care if in the engine bay.

HTH?

Got the BMS WW Meth Kits in stock

along with the AR Design Meth Elbow

Good for a 420+whp monster or in Phils case a lot of wheel spin in 4th

Meth and downpipes are all you need to make really big gains on these cars.

It is certainly something worth doing but I would recommend reading up on the subject in detail. It takes some understanding of how it works to use and maintain the meth system.

Meth is fairly easy to get hold of through bonnymans or eBay. It is a hazardous substance though.

Is it just a method to supress knock?

I thought meth was an oxidant? More oxidant means you can burn more fuel.

Phils the resident expert, but AFAIK basically yes, it controls knock (pre-ignition / detonation) by cooling and the methanol also raises the RON of the mixture to reduce detonation further, allowing more boost and ignition advance than would otherwise be possible on pump fuel, thus giving more output.

Lots of information sharing here.
How does it differ compared to NO2?

NO2 (or NO3 even) is a level or so up from Meth in that it increases the oxygen level in the mixture (NO2 is 1 part nitrogen, 2 parts oxygen i.e. 66% oxygen, compared to 20% ish in air), thus producing a more energetic combustion for the same amount of fuel and air.

The decompressing nitrogen which is inert, is also excellent at cooling as it evaporates via the injection nozzle.

If it is an oxidant, then it should also be effective in non-turbo engines using the same principal... more oxidant means you can burn more fuel.

NOS is an Oxidant and can be used to raise the power in any vehicle.

Meth is not and is only worth using on turbocharged cars for knock supression and chemical intercooling when running higher boost/timing.

Both can be used on petrol or diesels. Love to see a 335d running meth!!
