The wheel bolts looked like they sheared off.....

He probably used the wrong seating pattern on the bolts or the bolts were extremely cheap.

LOL!!!! So if i take the average joe car (like maybe a lexus or infiniti) and remove the lug nuts from each tire, how long do think it would take under normal (none track) driving before any one of the tires flies off?

When I was a kid we were on a family vacation in our van. I kept hearing this clicking sound so I told my father to stop the car. I had him roll forward a little and the lugs were so worn they were litterially slipping into the next hole. Hitched a ride into town got a tow truck. When the tow truck lifted the van the wheel just fell off by itself! Don't know how long it was like that but had the wheel fallen off while we were driving the van certainly would have flipped as it was a bubble top with a bed up high.

Flame suit on...

That's funny, but so sad...on the bright side, at least it was in a controlled environment and not on a busy street in the middle of traffic...

Apparently, the shop put in lugs with the wrong thread. He should have checked regardless.

Lug nuts: 150 feet; 300 feet if absolute straight line.
Lug bolts: fewer than three rotations if you're careful getting in the car in the first place.
Knock-off spinner: several hundred feet or first turn. But these aren't on the "average joe car".

ROFL. I bet he changed his tires and wheels himself for the event, and forgot to tighten them.

Apparently that's the storythat he got new lugs that were a close but no cigar fit. However, it also passed tech at the event.
