Standard blue tooth vs upgraded BT

Does anyone have any information on the standard BT that is included in the 3 vs the optional $650 BT/USB?

What does one gain with the upgraded BT over the standard BT?

My needs for BT are simple, I want to make calls hands-free, and I'd like my phone numbers to appear on a screen where I can scroll and dial them
Sounds like the standard BT will do just that.
Also, I've never used BMW Assist in the 3yrs I've had it in my 135i, and don't see that I'll ever need it.

What extra functions do I get for $650 upgrade?

You'd be fine with the normal BT. Advanced Bluetooth allows for things like streaming music via Bluetooth from apps like Pandora and having the album art appear on the Nav screen. Also, some enhanced iPod interface but without it you still have a good iPod integration.

Others that have it could add more, but at a high level I think you are fine. One of the few options I passed on.

Oh and be aware - in order to get this, you also have to add BMW Assist so it's alot more than $650 - at least in the US.

the only cool thing with the advance is being able to stream music from your phone, but I solved that problem by getting a sirius radio subscription.

Thanks guys.

Seems no need for me to get the enhanced BT.
I can still use my iPod, which I only use very rarely.

I'm more interested in sat. radio, as the stations in the Chicago area have gone to crap, and many have switched to talk/news formats.

Guess I'll save the $600 and apply it towards the tires I'll need for winter.

So regular bluetooth still allows you to have phone calls via bluetooth that play over all the cars' speakers?

For some reason I thought if you wanted hands free bluetooth phone calls you needed to add this option, is that incorrect?

That's why I wanted clarification as well.
If all you want and need is to make hands free calls over the cars audio system, then BMW now includes that as standard, NO need to get the "enhanced" BT.
