Bilstein PSS 10s for your 1m

Hey so i have not seen any talk about bilsteins up here.

Im getting a set from a friend thats selling his 1m and hes giving me a really good deal.

Im paying them off right now but im wondering why theres no talk about them.

There just as good quality of KW's if not better and i just want to make sure im investing my money on the right coilovers.

Any talk about the bilsteins will help. Are they on the level of asts ?
Are they better than KWs?

I cant wait !!!

I've been running pss9's for the last two years and they are great. they were specifically designed for the 1 series with proper spring rates. I would say the pss10's are on par with kw3's. you may want to look into custom spring rates to get the best out of them.

I am also thinking of PSS10 but some says it creates lots of noise on 1M.. Please let me know how you feel after u have it on.

Had pss10 on my 135i for a few months and was not happy. The minimum drop was too low, there was never a good balance between compression and rebound in the rear, the max damping level was not hard enough for track usage, and one of the rear adjusters jammed after a short while. Took almost a year for bilstein to sort it out. In the meantime I went with KW clubsports (which are the same as v3 in the rear on 135i) and it was night and day - all problems were addressed. Would not bother with pss10 again.

Probably going for jrz rs1 for the 1m, otherwise kw clubsports.

Coilovers tho are meant for the m3 can anyone help me out on spring rates so i could buy swift springs to mate on my bilstein dampers??

What should be the front spring rate and the rear spring rate?

Also im more of a daily drive but will use them on the track as well. I want a comfortable ride if that helps with determining spring rates

Just did he said the rear should be easy to upgrade since its not a true coilover the front is a different story though.

I need to find the spring id and length for the front so i could upgrade.

not sure why you can't upgrade the front springs. I would check with a few more vendors. don't worry about the nay sayers. PSS10 are quality piece. they do drop at least an inch though but then you have a lot of space for a drop

Funny I have heard the opposite on the KW vs Bilstein from a lot of people: KW being better than Bilstein. Have read many threads on people having issues with Bilstein and Bilstein being terrible about getting the issue resolved. I think either one would be just fine though. I had Bilstein on my 997 C2S and they had no issues. I can say the same for Ground Control coils on my e46 M3. Bilstein is only a single adjustable system so not as good as KWV3 in terms of adjustment and perhaps ride quality.

From my understanding the Bilstein pss10s have the least amount of adjustability (only one adjustment knob). This may be a benefit or a negative depending on how much you plan to track or how many adjustments you plan to make. The pss10 has one knob that adjusts the rebound and compression together. For someone who doesn't know suspension geometry very well it is as easy as softer/harder. The other options out there (KWv3, KW comp, AST4200 etc.) have height adjustment and have the ability to adjust the compression and rebound separately.

I have heard great things about the bilstein's for different cars. They make a solid product. Most of the guys on here with modified suspensions are doing so for track capabilities and being able to adjust more is seen as a definite plus. If you just want to adjust the height and play with the overall "firmness" a little then the pss10s will likely be adequate. They are also cheaper than the other coils that allow for finer adjustments...so that is a plus too.

I believe bilstein just raised the price of the pss10s if im not mistaken. They are more expensive than v3s now

My comments above are purely objective, and based on driving pss10 Vs Kw cs on street+track. The pss10 were lousy, the kw's were great. I no longer have either. Based on my experience I just offered my honest opinion about these dampers, and I would never recommend pss10 to anyone.

Haha the true question is are bilsteins better than then stock suspension?

Also are they better than v2s? Yes

Maybe KW v3s have more adjustment but bilsteins have some of the last monotube dampers which are basically race dampers from what i heard. I should have them on my car in about a week so ill let you guys know!

+1
Got the PSS, lowered too much the car even at the highest position, so I had to slightly modify them. Compression/rebound were both very bad, so I had to make this modified by a professionnal. Then I have been happy until they started making noise. I've been told it happens with the PSS. I would not recommend them either.
