email map location to Navi?

this is probably a dumb question, but i have heard of emailing/sending a point location to BMW's navigation. i have read this is possible on the F30, but i assume BMW Assist is required?

Yes, you need BMW assits but it comes free for 4 years, which is a great deal compare to one year before.

I also get traffic updates right into navigation.

I get traffic updates into my CCC Navi via the Traffic Info on my '08 E92, but that's via a radio signal, as I'm not a BMW Assist subscriber. That's a separate feature, no?

If you have nav without BMW assist, you dont get traffic updates and can't send addresses to the car form the app?

I skimmed through the owner's manual but didn't notice it, but how does one send a map address to the F30 nav system? I'm getting my 335i in a few days and I have ZTP and BMW Assist. Is it done though the BMW remote app? I haven't downloaded the app yet, as I figured I'd wait to set it up at the dealer when I pick up my car.

Nav automatically adds 6UH which is Real Time Traffic, but BMW Assist adds 615 which is online information services.

So Nav without BMW Assist gets you traffic but no send address to car functionality.

Go to google maps on a web connected device. Put in your address. from the "more" drop down in the address results, select send. Select send to car, select BMW, put in your BMW Assist email address and off it goes. You pick it up on the car at Connected Drive>BMW Assist>Messages. From there you can store it or select guidance.

BMW Assist is not FREE for the F30??
  • BMW Assist with Enhanced Bluetooth and USB $650

In the UK, according to the configurator, you can only get it as part of the Business or Professional Media Packages for £1550 and £1995 respectively.

I think what nofuture meant though was that subscription is free for 4 years (or rather, included), not that BMW Assist is free.

On our F25 we can send maps via Google WITHOUT having BMW assist setup. Maybe they switched with the F30s setup.

Also, there is mention of a web connected device but from my experience this only works from a desktop or laptop. I have never seen this option available in my web connected tablets, cell phones etc...

Yes, I stand corrected you have to pay for BMW Assist option but subscription is free for 4 years, at least in US of A.

Also, you can send location to your nav from your iPhone via BMW Remote App.

Lastly, you can save your current position, while on a map hit option and you will see option to save your current location.

As far as traffic I have no idea how it works.

BMW Asists for $650 in the US gets you the hardware/software and 4 year subscription. Cost is $199/year after that.

On a 3 year lease, that's equivalent to $53 for HW/SW and $199/year - kinda like a cell phone plan at ~$16.60/month.

The primary On-Star like services (Accident location reporting and theft tracking, etc.) do not seem worth it to me and neither does BMW Apps.

Any inputs on how good / easy the Nav destination input is and whether I can either save $900 or put that into the 19" staggered wheels/tires upgrade.

@pcbrew - this is something you have to go with your gut feel and balance out function of money vs usefulness to you.
Because honestly once you have these futures you would not wanna go back.

Yeah, I know. Ability to email destinations will make the Nav SO MUCH more useful IMO. I always use google maps when going somewhere new just so I know the general location, etc. In my typically driving in DFW metroplex, I need Nav just for the terminal guidance - last 1-2 miles.

I understand the subscrition costs for the connection, but all I really need is a built in WiFi connection so the car can connect to my home network. That would cover most needs.

BTW, I really wish the Nav pricing was more in like with the costs, including initial map cost. For the prices they charge, Nav should come with lifetime map upgrade. As it is, I think updates are ~$350.

Should not be possible-it is clearly part of the BMW Assist functionality. And it should be the same situation between F25 and F30.

What do you mean by "not setup"? Do you have assist or not? By not setup, it is automatically setup by your client advisor when you buy the car if you have it, so not clear here on what your specific situation is.

I'm seeing mention above of BMW Assist having a cost associated to it. I can say with certainty we are not paying for any Assist type services.

So, here is the deal with BMW Assist in the US. If you buy BMW Assist with your car, you get the BMW Assist hardware and 4 years free basic service. You can pay an additional $199/year for the Convenience Plan which provides additional services like Internet access, weather information, concierge service, BMW search, traffic information, and some others.

I think (but am not sure) that the BMW Assist traffic information is different than what you get through the Nav screen, although it may be that purchasing the Convenience Plan unlocks this feature. The Nav screen traffic info gets its updates through your radio using a traffic station that broadcasts to your local area.

I hope that helps.

People are talking about paying for the BMW Assist option, which if you want it, you pay $650 for it in the F30 3 series, not the subscription.

The $650 includes 4-year subscription to the basic services.

They bundle it with Bluetooth audio streaming. So if you want BT audio you gotta get bmw assist.
