trying to compound for the first time...

using ultimate compound from megs. tested a 2x2" section, found it almost IMPOSSIBLE to remove after heavy heavy rubbing to get it off the car. is this normal? i dont have that issue with wax?!

also, the compound doesn't seem abrasive enough, i've got a ton of swirl marks from the previous owner that i want to get rid of. any suggestions?

Question: You didn't let the compound dry, right?

yea it was washed and clayed. i think i found the root of my problem though. My buddy who does detailing said i shouldn't be using a microfiber bonnet on the orbital, but it should be a actual pad instead.

the bonnet he told me, was used for wax after the fact. any confirmation on that? i'm pretty sure he's right on this one.

i'll give it another go, if i run into the same issue, i'll swing by your spot! thanks!

I have personally never used a bonnet. I have only used a pad. I will let the pros chime in on that one.

Well in that case, no it is not normal. I know it can be a pain doing it by hand but it can be done. If the compound feels like its about to dry, add more compound and rub off. Maybe there was something wrong with the bottle.
