Amateur detailer needs some help

Hey guys, you do some phenomenal jobs around here and I figured I'll take a stab at asking some questions. I just got a $100 gift card to AutoGeek.net from my brother for my Bday. I'm not too sure what to buy as for some starter/beginner gear!

- I have a JB E90 (Medium level of swirls, stains in the clear, not shining like a JB should..interior clean, I don't mind too much, I tend to keep it pretty clean aside from some stains here and there on the carpet)
- Did clay -> polish -> wax process before.
- No experience using this professional stuff!
- Need help making my car look purrty :x lol

What do you currently have? Are you willing to spend more than your $100 gift card?

id recommend getting this to start http://www.autogeek.net/poca74pofcop.html and meguiars M105 & M205 combo. That's what i started with and had great results. Then you can choose whether you want a sealant or a wax for your final stage.

Good luck

I was in a similar situation a few months ago and have been picking up supplies as good deals have come around. With this past 15% off DI sale I was able to pick up the rest of what I think I need and hopefully can start this coming weekend

My plan is:

Wash/Clay

SIP on Orange
PG on Orange/Wool (scratched up spots)
PO203 on White
PO85RD on Black

Seal with PowerLock on Blue

PG is pretty aggressive and will jack things up, so be prepared for that. On some paints, Ive had to use M105 and surbuf to remove the PG and PFW marring

PG>105 in aggressiveness, and 105 finishes down much better

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll only have to resort to PG in 2 or 3 small problem areas, and I'll try it on orange first before going to wool if necessary. I'm assuming any marring will clean right up with SIP? I've read 105 has a bit more cut, but otherwise very similar

I dont think 105 has more cut, I had to bring out the wool and PG when a tahoe had deep defects that 105 and wool didnt remove, but PG removed in one pass

right; I was comparing SIP to 105, but irrelevant, I think I'll be good either way with everything from PG down to PO85RD (even have the finishing glaze, which I don't plan on using).

excited to get going this weekend

Just a tip, depending on where you live in the lower 48, AutoGeek's shipping prices can be through the roof

Can say that again. On average it's like $20.

Thanks for the feedback guys..

I think I'm going to go with this as a starter

http://www.autogeek.net/pitwpocaspof.html

Input??

Step's I plan on doing:

- Sonax FE on the wheels
- Wash w/ Meguirs Gold Class (been using this to wash my car, still have some so why not)
- Clay w/ Mother's product (owned already)
- Pinnacle Advanced Swirl remover with..Orange Pad??
- Pinnacle Finishing Polish with Gray Pad??
- Now this is the part I'm concerned about. Should I use a glaze/wax/sealant? If so which kind?

Let me know how this sounds to you guys, thanks again!

So I ended up going with this

http://www.autogeek.net/pitwpocaspof.html

- Chemical Guys Petes 53 Pearl Signature Paste Wax
- Chemical Guys EZ Creme Glaze w/ Acrylic Shine II
- Sonax FE Wheel Cleaner

my routine on jet black is as follows:

m105 on surbuf
P203S on white pad
PO85rd on black pad

i do not concern myself with trying to get the second stage to finish down perfectly since i follow up with PO85rd anyway. By not concerning myself, i mean i keep it at one speed and do not rewet the section and adjust my pressure. with the final stage (PO85rd), i do slow down the machine and lighten up on the pressure for the last two passes.
