What is this?

So I got in my car this morning and went to pick up my iPhone aux cable that sometimes slips down the gap between the driver seat and the centre console, and pulled this cable up instead

I've never seen it before and it definitely wasn't connected to anything so it wasn't like I yanked it out, it was just sat there, and I hadn't noticed before now.

It says USB on the top and the end is indeed a USB slot

My car hasn't got USB at least that I know of, so I am very confused, is it from my car? or has it somehow inexplicably ended up here?

If it's from my car, what's it for? and where does it go?

this.

mine fell out of my car on my first day of ownership. Is there a hole in ur center console? Was ur center console replaced? Mine just fell straight out of the car lol

I don't think so? I'll have a double check, my console hasn't been removed as far as I know, where about should I be looking?

I had another quick look, I honestly cannot see anywhere this cable/plug would go! or why it would be under my seat!

It would in theory go right next to the aux-in; but I think the newer stuff goes in the glove box.. open the glovebox and look to the left where the flashlight etc would be(?)
(or to the right if your car is RHD)

its definitely not next to the aux in, I don't have usb in my car, at least it doesn't come up on my radio etc...

it's almost 1 in the morning here, so I'll have to look in the morning.

It comes apart though, the bulky part saying "USB" is a plug/socket and the cable slots into that, similar to an ethernet cable.

seems no one knows quite what it is...

Note that it could also just be some aftermarket component that may have previously been installed in the car.. But do some digging before you toss it out!

I'm not sure where the USB module resides but definately do research, maybe check the DIY forums, and see if it's there..

It may have been, but it doesn't look too "aftermarkety" looks quite OEM IMO, almost like the plug sits flush and is meant to be there.

I've examined it closely and it has no part number or or any markings, just has the letters

Hmm, maybe your right. It does look like it should be in a car/my car though, it doesn't look like something someone would just have in their pocket
