Question on detailing exterior of my 07 BMW 328i for the first time!
Hey guys,
So I am trying to detail the exterior of my newly purchased used 07 328i I somehow missed the Detail 101 sticky and ended up with the following products ;/ 1) Meguiar Complete Car care kit - Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner - Gold Class Liquid Wax - Gold Class Endurance High Gloss tire Gel - Quik Detailer - Quik Interior Detailer - 50grm Clay Bars - PlastX - ScratchX - 1 Microfiber Towel - 1 Foam Applicator Pad - Microfiber Wash Mitt 2) Armor All Extreme wheel & tire cleaner (kinda weak...) 3) PakShak fluffy MF 4) Lexol Vinylex Lexol leather cleaner / conditioner ( dries the crap out of my black leather >_>!) If I use the listed product with matching instruction from Detail 101 post, I should be fine right? This will be my first time.. 1) washing - gold class car shampoo&conditioner (2bucket method) 2) clay - meguiar clay bar Can I use diluted Quik Detailer as lube? 3) polish - don't have PC, maybe skip... 4) wax - meguiar liquid wax Question: This car seems like it has never been detailed inside/outside. Should I wash twice? Also I found these rough to the finger spots on my hood... I guess I should just clay it and wax? Not sure what happened since previous owner has no idea. See attachment for pic! |

Another good resource is our detailing guide and our Ask a Pro Blog. These should be a great tool for you and I'd be happy to help you with any specific questions you might have.

you need to have it polished if its been 5 years no polishing done. Wax is just a temporary shine booster, polishing is where you get the real gloss!
there is no doubt oxidation build up on the car. Thats what compounding/polishing will get rid of. To be honest, you have some good maintenance stuff going on, but no correction products to really handle the car effectively. i would get a pro to go over the car with a decon wash, clay, polishing, sealant application first, and then you just maintain it from there |

Hey guys,
Thanks for the reply and I'll read up more from the linked sites. Eric - I kinda figured the polishing steps is needed since the clearcoat is probably not smooth or even close to it after 5 yrs. Since I am more of a DIY geek; I might purchase all the necessary tools for polishing if the result from simply washing is not good enough for me. |
