Bluesie's Big Adventure

Hi guys,

As I mentioned on a different thread, I'm on a cross-country voyage with the Z. I don't have much time, but I thought I'd post a few pics of the trip. I'm in South Dakota, heading toward the Badlands today, a full month into the trip, but these pics are from the first few days, in Oregon and Idaho. I hope ya like them.

WHOOPS!

On the road in Oregon

At Mt. Hood

Still in Oregon

near Mt Hood

In Idaho now. Day 3. Sawtooth Mts.

Outside Boise.

In Idaho... love the twisties.

Wow, wow and wow! What beautiful scenery, and I'm so glad to hear the Z is performing so well for you. You behave yourself on those roads and watch your speed!

Hello again folks!

At the risk of giving y'all bluesie overkill here are some more pics, roughly through day 12. I'm in Cody Wyoming at present, but won't get to these pics fopr another post or two. This batch of pics gets me to as far as Arizona.

Here, Bluesie is eyeballing a thunderstorm.

Here she is basking in a Nevada Sunset before a very nice drive under the stars.

Here's where we took a little side trip to the surface of Mars.

I like this one, because this is the road we broke 125 with the top down. Boy, is that ever windy! ZOOOOOM!

Some Nevada terrain.

Here's Bluesie enjoying a sunset and moonrise at the same time.

These two show why it's called the "painted desert"

Why is it ancient indians always lived in "ruins"?

I gotta stop for now before this cheesy internect connection discoes me again. More later, and thanks for your comments!

Thanks for the shots! Kind of interesting to consider the landscape from your NW perspective. I grew up in Arizona and then spent almost 30 years living in Utah after I left Phoenix to go to college before moving to the NW, so you are driving though territory I know well but got tired of after too many years of dirt and rocks.

The "125 mph" shot reminded me of why you might want to go that fast - so you can get somewhere more interesting

I have spent far too many hours crossing the various routes across Nevada back in the days when we got stuck with 55mph speed limits and those roads can redefine boring. Worse yet, I have done several cross Nevada trips in a Volkswagon bus so you have the "opportunity" to slow down for the mountains instead of grinning at the prospect of a twisty section of the highway.

At the same time, this is new terrain from your perspective and it's kind of fun to see it considering your point of view.

Thanks for sharing and happy trails!

Dry heat in that neck of the woods (or lack thereof in this case) is often in the range of 3-5% humidity. That doesn't help much when it goes above 105-110.

That's a good point, Takedown. I've been trying to soak in the different ambiance of each place, and like to stop a lot and just meditate on it's particular suchness. The pics don't really do it justice, since I find that each spot has it's own soundtrack too, with the bird songs, crickets, frogs, and whatnot.

The funny thing is, the most beautiful thing in each landscape turns out to be BLUESIE!!! GOD, I love this car!! Well, at the Grand Canyon she finally met her match, but I must say, when I contemplate it all, I get this overwhelming sense of gratitude that borders on the religious. It's not just the car or the landscape or the soundtrack... it's the whole package of life on earth at this point in time, and the human condition. It just freaking blows me away that we have the power to glide over a mountain range in our space ships. And I think of all the countless people who have made it possible in this endless stream of building contribution upon contribution... it just amazes me and I'm left with a feeling of awe.

Heh. I guess one nice thing about a vacation solo is it gives ya plenty of time to think, huh?

LOL!!! The funny thing is, I've been listening to a couple books-on-tape by the Dalai Lama while I drive.

I even sometimes say "OOooOOooooooommmmmm" though the twisties. No joke! It's true.

But then I top it off with a good Muddy Waters on the ipod or a George Carlin disc.

But here's a thought I was having today while cruising through Yellowstone per the Buddhistic quest for inner peace: okay, I've use the techniques to purge myself of the bitterness toward the sweet lady that ripped my heart out by the threads, I've made peace with my inner brat and parents and stuff, I've learned to stop dwelling on negative thoughts, and nurtured a sense of stillness and oneness with the cosmos. . . but there is one hurdle I just can't get over: I still feel my blood pressure go up when I get behind a slowpoke! Help me, Obiwan!

Breathe deeply and then carefully visualize the thought that would bring you true innermost peace in such a situation:

A hood mounted phaser that would vaporize the SOB who would dare to actually do the speed limit in front of you during a Zen Zed(TM) moment
