Charging Malfunction- Help!
Bought a new battery for my 07 335i in October 2011 but was not aware I needed to register it. I received 'charging malfunction!' messages about two weeks ago so I brought it to an independent BMW mechanic who registered battery. Mechanic did tests on alternator which appeared to be ok. Registration seemed to solve problem, as no messages appeared for a couple weeks.
Not so fast. They have appeared again. Also, the engine seems to turn over slowly when started. Is this an IBS problem? I'm taking it to BMW dealer tomorrow but would appreciate any feedback/suggestions. Thanks in advance. |

Check all wiring in the battery compartment- may be something came off or is not making good contact, if alternator is ruled out. IBS is also a possibility. What is the exact code you pulled from OBDII?

Sorry to bring this thread back. But my car is showing charging malfunction. By the way it is a 2010 e90 335i xdrive. It has the AGM battery. Why is it showing it? Are there any signs if a bad alternator? I can not get it tested because the car is in the process of being fixed.

Had the same issue as you, turned out to be the alternator. Basically with my issue it was bouncing from 12, 14, even as high as 16 volts while running. It threw a lot of codes as well. My dash lit up like a Xmas tree while driving and the speedometer would even cut in and out. Long story short after it was replaced no more issues AND it got rid of the rough idle I was having when I was at idle. It stays at a constant 600 rpms now. Hopefully they figure your issue out.

It's charges sometimes. I am putting a charger on it. And it won't start on its own I have to jump start it. In starting to think that a ground wire came loose or the ibs sensor.
