Traded: 2012 Ford Mustang GT for 2012 BMW 335i
Hey guys,
I've been a long time fan of BMWs and have followed bimmerpost.com for years. I recently traded my 2012 Ford Mustang GT for a BMW 335i for several reasons.
On a serious note, I got rid of it for a multitude of reasons. I originally purchased the car, knowing full well that she did not know how to drive a manual. My thought here is that I was going to teach her. I tried doing so during this past Christmas break, but realized that she had to sit crazy close to the steering wheel to full engage the clutch. Not only is this an inconvenience, but it's very unsafe and not something to take lightly. The other issue I quickly realized is that the passenger seat had no power, and therefore, had no way to adjust the height of the seat. As a result, the dash was eye-level for her, creating a very unpleasant and, at times, nauseating ride. The final reason I decided to sell it was due to a wreck I had back in August '10 (other party's fault). I had many things I wanted to do to the car, but given my wife's lack of excitement over the car and the fact that it took a huge depreciation hit (I was compensated), I did not want to spend any more on it. It was a combination of all these things that got me looking into the other cars. I've always been a fan of BMW and decided to go with a BMW 335i M-sport (I'm still after my dream M3!). Now, I won't tell you that it's as fast as the Mustang, because it's not - not even close. But, it is still very fast and very refined. Refined is not a word that I would use to describe my old car - more like brute force, full on power - a great thing given your mood :-). However, you have to take the good with the bad. I lost speed, but the ride is crazy smooth (in comparison) and the creature comforts are great (seats are comfy, quiet, etc.). Most importantly, my wife LOVES the new car. Honestly, I'm a bit indifferent when comparing the two because they both had their strong points. However, I'm happy that she is now able to drive the car (auto) and I'm really enjoying it. Unlike my "high hopes" for the Mustang, I'm keeping this car relatively stock other than tint and hard wiring my radar detector. I think the Harmon-Kardon system in it sounds great and I have no interest in changing things from that end. I'm also happy with the suspension's firmness and height. The only thing that would tempt me are new wheels. However, I'm going to play it cool for several months and do a lot of reading/researching. I'm not quite sure how to end this other than with some pictures. Sorry about the low quality BMW pic - I was lazy and used my iPhone while programming the garage door opener. I'll have to take some time after I get it tinted to take some decent pictures. Before: After: BMW!!

Well I can only say welcome, and you made the right choice. Also, your wife was right for pushing the issue. Need to see more pics of your nice ride,

2012 ford mustang gt is about 400 horses no? coupled with a throttle response of a V8, it should be a bit faster than the 335i no doubt.
but the 335i has a Cobb AP flash tune potential. For $700, you can squeeze more psi and get 370+ whp. Plus you can't beat the bimmer's smoother ride, handling, and quality interior compared to the Ford. I rented a 2010 Mustang V6 while in hawaii. Quite torquey and fun for a V6 (300hp). But I hated the interior and the handling could be better. Ride was good due to it's fatter sidewalls. |

Yeah, Ford underrates the 5.0 at 412 BHP. Reality is, stock 5.0's push 375 RWHP in stock form and run 12.7's with a competent driver. Mine also came with the Brembo brake package (formally known as the Track Pack), so it was quite a bit stiffer and had stickier tires (Pirelli P-Zeros).

You are going to need a lot more than just a tune of your choice on a n55 to hang with a stock 5.0

good decision... and I say that honestly... I love American cars but BMWs are pure class, luxury and performance combined into one.

I beat new 5.0's at the 1/8 mile track with just a JB4 and 100 octane. I have a N54 though.

Nice car but man what a downgrade. Downgrade meaning that you switched to an auto. I'm just wondering even with the adjustable steering wheel in the bmw should she still sit too close? But now since its an auto its kind of like insurance, your wife now sits farther because there's no clutch and so now she can't smash the accelerator.
nice ride though.

Did the mustang have an adjustable steering wheel? Not just just up and down but closer and farther.

It might be closer with you on race gas and jb4 since you have a n54, but I doubt most n55s with just a tune of their choice will hang with one. |
