Does a deployed airbag cause any damage?

So i found this perfect coupe 335i.. Except its been in an accident that caused its airbag to deploy and had to be towed.. The steering wheel was also replaced probably because of the drivers head hitting it.. : . Anyways my question is does the steering wheel being replaced and the airbags being deployed cause any actual damage if they fixed the car? Would i be able to know if the car had been hit pretty bad now or not? Would i be able to get the price down to 25k? Here is the car...

If it did not hit any structure the airbag wont deploy... and they want 25K... I say 15K that's all you should offer them... walk away there is alot other out there... If you can sense that there is something not right... then it means that it is not right...

that's such a bad deal. I've seen CPO'd coupes on BMW lots for that price.

Airbag deployment is based on detected rate of deceleration.

Incorrect. There are literally millions of calculations that go into a modern airbag deployment but the bottom line question is always "will the deployment reduce or limit the severity of injury?" If it will, then the airbag will deploy.

First gen airbag cars had hardwired sensors behind the bumpers - whack it hard enough and it'll go off, but all that is changed now.

I would never buy a car if I knew the airbag had been deployed. there are so many cars out there, go find one that hasn't been wrecked! You think you're getting a good deal but any money you save up front on the purchase price you will end up shelling out in the end because there will be a lot of stuff that wasn't fixed properly and you'll have no idea until things start failing, breaking, and falling off

first off it does not mean that there is structural or frame damage just because the airbag deployed. it could of been a simple fender bender causing the airbag to deploy. Especially on these vehicles since there are two airbag crash sensors right behind the front fender by the headlights.

as for wanting 26k for it, its not that bad but i would say offer them 23-24k since it did have a deployed airbag. and even after the airbag has been deployed and then replaced this does not cause a weakened safety system in the vehicle. everything will still work as it should. I'm not trying to sell you or the vehicle but I am in the business and I'm just giving my point of view from a professional in the business.

***also if you really wanted to purhase a vehicle alot of dealers would let you take it to a repair facility or dealer to have it inspected before you buy it. I do that if my customers want. But it's at your(the customers) expense.

I wonder if you taped a football to the steering wheel would it come off with enough force to jack you up if the airbag deployed?

Dude! why would you advise OP to re-consider this shit, when there is a lot of cars in FLORIDA that is For Sale in this forum that is worth looking at than listening to whoever is selling him this car.... if you insist show him all the paper work from a CERTIFIED BMW COLLISION CENTER and CARFAX so OP will know the real facts about the HISTORY of the car.... then only then he will feel satisfied and at ease if he wants to make a deal with this dream car he is looking at...I still say walk away and get a CPO car there is a lot out there... Also he is not even at a BMW Dealer he is at an AUCTION CENTER

I'm just stating the facts man. LIKE I TOLD HIM AND I'LL TELL YOU TOO: I AIN'T TRYING TO SELL THE CAR NOR AM I TRYING TO SELL HIM. people tend to become arrogant douche-bags when they hear an airbag or two was previously deployed and think that major damage was done and the car isn't safe anymore. I just stated that the vehicle DID NOT have to be hit hard to sustain frame or structural damage for the airbag to deploy. I just offered an opinion on what i think he should have paid IF he wanted the vehicle. and the vehicle was for sale on autotrader.com listed by a DEALER(NOT BMW DEALERSHIP). ALSO I stated that and I quote myself: "***also if you really wanted to purhase a vehicle alot of dealers would let you take it to a repair facility or dealer to have it inspected before you buy it. I do that if my customers want. But it's at your(the customers) expense."......In the quote there I never said anything pertaining to this specific vehicle he wanted to buy. I stated that ALOT OF DEALERS(wheter private or not) WOULD LET YOU take the vehicle for a PRE-SALE INSPECTION. The choice of where is upto you hence I said REPAIR FACILITY OR DEALER(meaning BMW dealership) and its at the customers(in this case if he wanted to get it done to know info on the car, HIM)....So don't try to bash me man.

Airbag doesn't always mean structural it can just mean that there was a pretty big change in velocity in a short span of time.
