Bad day for my car
Well tonight hasn't been the most successful night as far as my car is concerned. I went to replace my fog lights, but then found out I have the wrong bulb because of the Mtech kit on my car.
After going through all that, I then went out and realized the steptronic mode on my car isn't working. The orange light that normally switches when going between park, reverse, neutral, etc isn't lit. When I attempt to go into steptronic mode, it just stays in D. I know this is an issue and have seen similar posts on the topic, but none have ever mentioned anything about the light not illuminating by the shifter. I'm hoping this is an easy fix, so please let me know some thoughts and suggestions. Will be taking it into the shop tomorrow if I can't figure anything out.

Open up the center console area and pop out the black plastic that the shifter is surrounded by. There should be a cable attached under the shift selection panel (the thing that glows orange showing you what gear you're in). Make sure that this cable is snug and that none of the wires are damaged. When putting everything back together, make sure that the cable is out of the path of the shifter. Hopefully you just have a loose connection.

Thanks guys. I looked under the panel and don't really know what I'm looking for, so I'm just going to have the dealer look at it. Crossing my fingers for just a loose connection somewhere.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger
