Clanking while idle
Hey guys,
Today I heard the most horrible sound ever. I mean, I\'m pretty paranoid but I new this was coming... At idle with the clutch disengaged I hear a clanking almost as if there was no oil in the engine. It\'s not super loud but enough to annoy me and worry me at the same time. Any thoughts? |

It's a bone stock 2008 335i vert. I bought it about 2 months ago and been noticing this noise becoming slightly louder...maybe I need a new clutch soon :'(
That would really suck cuz I can't afford any trouble right now lol. When I disengage the noise is there and when I engage it is quiet as a mouse. From my experience it may be a bearing or spring starting to give way. I'd be pissed if it was |

I have a 335xi and have been hearing the clanking or ticking noise. It comes and goes, mostly while idling though especially after cold starts. I took it to the dealership who claims its something called "lifters" in the engine and that its supposed to sound that way.. is this true?

It's possibly your dual-mass flywheel rattling. Does the sound go away when you press the clutch pedal? If so, that's the culprit. This isn't really a problem but is the nature of the beast when you have a dual-mass flywheel. Regards. |
