Stiff Steering in BMWs
Do a lot of people when they test drive or something think this is a bug in the car that it is tough to steer?
My brother test drove my car and he said he didn't like the stiff steering, my dad calls me next day says you should go for a check up? |

depending on if yours is hydraulic or electric, the resistance is noticeably different
i actually like the "effort" needed to steer with, i had a loaner recently with very light steering .. felt cheap

Obvioulsy we are dealing with people who are too young to remember when Power Steering was optional if it was available at all,

I let my mom drive it and she loved it. She always teased me saying her 06 Altima SE-R was faster than my BMW so I was like just drive it. She loved the steering and how smooth and planted the car felt, said she got it up to 110 on the interstate and it felt like 80. Wonderful. haha she's the only person to drive it so far.

Mine is a 2008 and I love how tight the steering is. I have driven 2011 e90 loaners during service visits and have noticed that the steering has been made lighter in the new cars, I don't like it.

I did not drive my bimmer for 2 weeks but earlier in the day I drove my sister's subaru impreza so when I drove my car I forgot how heavy it was and thought something was broken. Then I realize its suppose to be that way. |

BMW is unique in this respect, and I have driven many a miles on all kinds of vehicles- including non power steering. Heavy feel of the steering and speed-sensitive steering really connects you better to the road. Add to this the superior suspension and transmission, and you have a car that feels like it's on the rails.

I dislike every time I test drive an Audi how flimsy the steering is. I much prefer it stiff, feel like I'm actually driving the car. And it's not even like it's that stiff, other cars are just loose as fuk.
