Custom NYS Plate Question

So I have blue and white plates currently and wanted to know if I get a custom plate can I ever get my old blue and white plate back? I know that you don't have to turn your plates in when you get custom ones so if I keep them can I use them again?

I doubt it. Currently waiting on my own custom plates and although I don't like the color, I like the plate content.

No one has answered my question. I am getting BMW CCA plates but I wanted to know if I could ever use my blue and white regular plates again.

Yes, you can. The registration has both the custom plate number and the original plate numbers.

as a fellow New Yorker, what were they thinkingggg with these bright orange/yellow and dark blue pieces of metal. I mean i have heard..

Reasons:
$260 Million in new revenue.
Create 100 new jobs.
Some older plates are worn and hard to read.

but still..
