shipping 3-series

Was wondering if anybody had any experience shipping a 3 series sedan interstate. I have heard pros and cons of open or closed transport but experiences have been varied. If you have had a good experience with a shipper can you recommend one and how much the cost is?

I'm going to have to ship mine soon when I transfer to my next duty station. I'd rather put it on towplatform, covered up, and tow it behind a U-haul myself if I have the choice. Otherwise, closed would be my rec.

I dunno I've seen transporters before either on the highway or on local roads, and some of the cars have their windows down. I always thought that didn't make sense and I wouldn't want my car going like that. You'd think it would add drag to the car carrier as well? Or is it plain laziness in dealing with all the cars it's carrying?

I don't have an issue with open carriers since the car is in the open when driven.
I would never put a cover on an car on an open carrier. You are asking for scratches and wear from a flapping cover no matter how tight you get it.
The most important part is finding someone who knows what they are doing and cares about quality. Uship.com has been a good resource for me. Read reviews/feedback thoroughly.

I moved a Range Rover from NYC to Boston using Horseless Carriage for about $850.00. it was in a fully enclosed tractor trailer.
No complaints with the service

I would wrap it in blankets and put it in a temp controlled shipping container. Do some of you treat your cars better than your wife or gf.
